I’ve been making some minor changes in the little breakfast room off of the kitchen, with the most recent being a new chandelier from ParrotUncle.
When we bought our home, many of the original chandeliers stayed with the house. They are all gorgeous and we have kept all of them, even though we have relocated a few to different rooms where they seem to work better for their style or size.
The chandelier that was in the breakfast room was beautiful, but it was a little too petite for the area. Every time I photographed that area, and then looked at the photos, I would think to myself, “that chandy is just not big enough”.
Fortunately I recently had an opportunity to review a wonderful chandelier from ParrotUncle and I am in love with it! It’s the perfect size for the area and it has the french look that I love.
This six light chandelier has carved wood details and metal arms with a rusted finish, creating a timeworn look, which lends itself perfectly for a vintage style.
What I love about this particular chandy is that the top, as well as each arm, is topped with “petal” accents made out of metal, and the candle sleeves resemble dripping candles.
Every time I look through the selection at ParrotUncle, I am impressed. No matter what your style or budget, they have fabulous lighting options for literally every room in the house. It was difficult to choose a chandy for the breakfast room because they have so many great choices.
Hubby had the old chandelier down and the new one up in short order and I was so excited to see that it was the perfect selection for this room.
The new light fixture compliments our decor and looks perfect against the backdrop of creams and grays, old wood, and grain sacks.
The wood on the chandelier has an almost whitewashed look to the finish, so it looks great with our planked ceilings, which are also whitewashed.
We just had another snowfall, so it has been very cold and dreary here. Getting a beautiful, new chandelier hung in the breakfast room was a fun project.
Hubby is finding it humorous that we have completely renovated this space, but now I’m going back and “tweaking” it. You get it, right?
I moved the old chandelier into storage until I can find another place for it. Since it is original to the home, I will definitely use it in another space. It’s a petite size, so I think it will probably end up being used in a bathroom……or possibly a walk-in closet!
It’s amazing what simple changes will do for a room, and changing out lighting is an easy update that has a big impact. I’m so happy with the new chandelier! And I’m very impressed with the options, pricing, and customer service at ParrotUncle! If you’re looking for new lighting, be sure and check them out, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
Cheers,
Cindy
Good morning Cindy! I have just discovered your blog…..oh my goodness! I will be visiting every morning , you have a beautiful home….I really enjoy all your post filled with lovely pictures and inspiring ideas!
Thank you so much Rebecca! So glad you’re here!
Gourgeous chandy!
Fits your style perfectly.
I agree with your thoughts on hanging it a bit lower, as that was my first reflection.
Thanks for sharing inspiring pictures.

I love reading your blog Cindy. Your home is gorgeous and you give the best info! xoxo
Thank you so much Randi!
Hi Cindy,
Congratulations on the article in the Italian magazine! The new chandy looks fabulous. It suits the whole look. Did the ceiling piece also come with it or is it one of your great additions? Also, did you get your mora clock from Maison Decor?
Linda
Thank you Linda! The new chandelier did come with a ceiling piece, but it was rather plain, so I re-used the vintage one that was with the old one. My Mora clock actually came from a company called Peacock Park Designs several years ago, and unfortunately they have been discontinued. However, stay tuned…..we have a lead on a gorgeous Mora clock at a great price and will be doing an upcoming post as soon as all the details are worked out!
Cindy~
I agree, a perfect fit for your breakfast room !!
Question?? when you painted your kitchen cabinets was the cabinet doors wood? My doors are a replacement doors from years ago, and the finish is Not a wood, I just wondered if paint or stain would stick to them for the long haul ?? Wish I could just have a cabinet company come and do a new kitchen !! hehe
Thanks Cindy!
🙂
Paula
The cabinets in our kitchen were stained wood. Maybe you could try priming yours and then painting? I hear ya about the cabinet company, but boy are they expensive!
Very Pretty! I saw a similar chandelier in my antique mall the other day marked at really good price and I almost bought it. Now, I think I should have. I love it!
Oh, Nancy, yes you should buy it!
Ouch your new chandy is beautiful, and looks great with your ceiling….
Hummm funny I can’t remember the candy you had there, but this one is soooo perfect for your home 😉
Have a wonderful weekend, we are expecting a snow storm, but I love snow so I’m happy…lol….
Smiles~
Mari
Thank you Mari! Enjoy that snow storm, it sounds like it’s going to be a good one for a fire, a warm blanket, and a cup of cocoa!
Hi Cindy! Once again, so beautiful! I love your beautiful home and can’t wait to see the Foyer!
On another note, I wanted to ask you question. I have a beautiful buffet similar, but smaller, than your blue beauty in your kitchen that was one of the first pieces my Mom and Dad started housekeeping with in 1950. They have both passed, and I would love to restore it. My question is, it has some of the veneer that is breaking away so I was wondering if you have had any luck with repairing veneer and the process you used.
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings! Susan
Susan, unfortunately I haven’t had any luck with repairing veneer. It makes me cringe when I think about it. Lol. But here is a link to site that has some great tips for repairing veneer that might work for you. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/skill-builder/0,,210124,00.html
Thanks Cindy!
Chandelier looks very good with your décor! The other chandy is pretty but this looks good for that room. I love seeing your house and what you are up to next!!! Very pretty home!
Thank you Nancy!
Love it, Cindy and you know I certainly understand tweaking better than anyone. 🙂
I love it . It is so beautiful and adds the perfect finishing touch to the room. I do have a question. I was told once that the perfect height of a lighting chandelier over a table was to be measured at the bottom of light being 36 inches from the table…is this true..? Did you hang yours higher to allow for the window view ? I truly love your blog thank you for letting us enter your home via the photos .
Thank you Sandy! The “rule of thumb” for hanging a chandelier over a table is 30″ to 34″, measuring from the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table, this is for an average of an 8′ ceiling. We hung ours 32″ over the table, though I feel like it is still slightly too high. I was just telling hubby this morning that I thought it needed to be lowered 1-2″, so we’re going to probably do that in the next few days!
Hello again! So are your ceilings 8 feet or are they higher? Thanks!
Susan, our ceiling in the breakfast room is 8′.
Love anything you do Cindy!!
Aw, thank you so much Gay! That means so much to me!
It looks beautiful. I’m going to check out this site as I had never heard of it. Tweaking is a never ending process so I think you better give hubby the memo!
Thanks, Amy!
I subscribe to several blogs. However each new post frm Edith and Evelyn grabs my attention and it’s the first one I read. Cindy, I love your home and the magical change you’ve made in it. I totally understand the continuing tweaking. I have this thought that comes into my head that says something like “that offends my eye”. So a tweaking I will go. Love my home and love making it beautiful to my eye. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment Alice!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful home! Love the chandelier…and just visited the site. I have been looking for new fixtures for some time. Toss up now between this site and Quorum, La Maison. Keep your beautiful ideas coming!
Thank you Susan! I actually have a Quorum chandelier in the master bedroom, love it!
It’s perfect Cindy!! Love that space:)
Celia
Thank you so much Celia!
What a perfect choice you made for your breakfast area. I love the way it looks against your planked ceiling. Congrats on making the French Magazine. Your photos
of your house always start my day off with a smile! 🙂
Thank you so much Rene’!
I have this bad habit of reading blogs devotedly but never commenting – and as a writer myself I think that’s terrible! I adore your blog and your lovely home. Now imagine I write this after every post, ok? Excellent!
Thank you for commenting Lisa!
