A new find has arrived in our home…a turquoise velvet French chair!
She’s a bit shabby and worn, and her clothes have seen better days, but my heart skipped a beat when I laid eyes on her.
Nothing makes my heart rate speed up faster than spying a vintage turquoise velvet French chair at an estate sale!
While shopping an estate sale a couple of months ago, I came across this timeworn beauty sitting in a corner, waiting for someone to find her.
I had been at the sale for awhile and I thought I had seen everything, but decided to make one more pass through the sale just to make sure.
Walking right past her, something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye….the turquoise color, perhaps?
I slowly turned back around and there she sat. This gorgeous turquoise French chair was sitting there all alone, simply waiting for me.
How could I not take her home? After all, she was dressed in my favorite color!
As I drew closer, I saw that the wood had beautiful carvings with curvy legs, and she was finished in a soft shabby white.
The turquoise velvet was a bit timeworn and needed a good cleaning, so I was a little hesitant…I may have even turned my back and walked away a few steps…..but something pulled me back.
I simply could not leave her there, so I picked her up and carried her to the checkout.
As I carried her to the car, I can’t count the number of people that stopped me and commented on how fabulous she was!
I’m going to find a good upholstery cleaner and see if I can clean her up a bit for the time being.
Someday, if I find a turquoise velvet fabric that compares to her current upholstery, I will get her reupholstered. But for now, she’s staying just the way I found her.
For some reason, this has become Miss Rubylou’s favorite chair.
It has a down filled cushion and I think she likes the way it forms to her body when she lays there…..and she does look pretty cute sitting in it!
My French loving friends are sharing some wonderful inspiration today. Please visit their homes and enjoy!
Cheers, Cindy

Oh my gosh. I have a settee that almost matches that chair. More sapphire with the original velvet. It’s moved with me five times and spent time at my sister’s. On my last move I had it professionally cleaned and it just gleams. I picked it up at an estate sale, also passed by many customers. It was like it was waiting for me.
Ballard Designs has two velvets that would be perfect for you new chair.
Beautiful chair! I usually have to go around a couple of times at estate sales, antique stores, etc. because I know I always miss something.
LOVE the chair! Score!!!
The turquoise chair is beautiful! Great find. I would have snatched her up too! Little Ruby looks so at home sitting in it.
Thank you, Michele!
I love that chair. I could not have left with out purchasing. I’m very weak when I spy frenchy things….I have been cleaning out my attic today because of my hoarding of house stuff. But when I look at your blog I’m wanting to put it back in the attic because I love this stuff I have collected…lol—and your pretty stuff!! I don’t have any where to put in house because I love what I have there also…what does an addict do??? If you find velvet upholstery cleaner I want to know. I have sold chairs because don’t know what will clean velvet. Miss Rubylou makes that chair more pretty!
I know, Nancy! It’s an ongoing problem! Lol! If I find something to clean the velvet with, I will let you know!
Cindy,
Gorgeous chair!
Miss Rubylou is one very lucky canine!

Thank goodness we saw the turquoise chair in the small pictures before your blog….why didn’t you post MORE pictures of your chair? I love French chairs too. Lucky find. Just to let you know there were NO pictures in your blog. Is it MY computer or yours?
Hi Sherry! I think the issue may be on your end. I’ve checked our blog from several different sources and the pictures are all showing up. You might try deleting all cookies and clearing your cache and see if that helps!
