An Elegant Halloween, Some News, and More!
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but after months of thought, conversations, and lots of prayer, hubby and I have made a major decision. We’ve decided to put our home on the market and begin the process of moving back to the South/Gulf Coast area.
For many, many months, my heart has been aching to be closer to our children. All three of our boys, and their families, live in Florida and Alabama. Seeing them once or twice a year just isn’t enough for this mama! Our grandchildren are there, and our middle son became engaged a few months ago to a young lady that we absolutely adore. Our family is growing, but we feel like we are too far away, and we are missing so much.
It’s a little bittersweet, because we’ve put so much of our hearts, time, money, and energy into this old beauty of a house, transforming it into the home that we dreamed of. This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but in the end, nothing matters except family and making those precious memories while we can.
So, we have put our house on the market, and I’m slowly going through each room, editing the decor, putting things in storage, selling some pieces, and trying to “neutralize” the rooms for showing. It’s been a challenge, but I’m getting it done slowly. We’re wanting to downsize on our next home so that we don’t have as much upkeep. I’ve already sold quite a bit on our Facebook page, and will have more to sell as I clear out more rooms. Smaller items, I will list in our online shop. Larger items, like furniture and non-shippable items, I will list on our Facebook page first, so if you’re in the area, check out our FB page for updates.
It will be exciting to re-decorate and re-furnish a new home, but the most exciting part will be seeing our children more often! Please keep us in your prayers that this transition goes smoothly for us and stay tuned for updates!
Today is French Country Friday, and we’ve got lots to share! It’s all about Fall decorating, an elegant Halloween dinner, collecting ironstone, loving copper, and a fabulous tour of a French Country Home! Enjoy!
Cheers, Cindy

Hello Cindy,
I’ve been following your blog for quite a long time. So I hope you won’t mind if I ask this question.
I downsized one year ago. The walls are plain. I painted gray throughout. For rooms that have have 8 foot ceilings, I want to install crown mold and trim out the windows where I can.
My question is — do you think wainscoting is “trendy”?? I would hate to install it in several rooms,
and then find out 3 years down the road that its yesterday’s news. This house needs something to give it some interest.
I value your opinion, and thank you in advance for your time.
Respectfully,
Mary Syron
St. Louis, MO
Hi Mary! While some designers may say that wainscoting comes and goes out of style, I am not one of them! I have always believed that wainscoting is classic and can elevate a plain room to a custom look. Wainscoting is such an easy way to add architectural interest! I don’t think you can go wrong by adding it to your home! I hope this helps!
Wishing you the best in your move how exciting! I had my first grandbaby in August and it would kill me not to be able to be around him. I can totally understand your decision. I’m so looking forward to seeing your next amazing home and watching you transform it. The winters will be so nice I’m in Tallahassee, FL and I don’t own a big coat just light jackets!
Ruby will love it too!
Cindy, I wish you all the best with your upcoming move back nearer to your children and grandchildren. It’s very hard to leave a home we love but the next one will be fun to decorate, too. I thought I was at the lowest point when our last home had to be sold in California, but it was God’s good timing! He gave my husband a better job, better pay, no state income taxes in Texas, and much more. <3 I look forward to seeing your big angel gracing your new home soon…
Love and hugs, and happy fall to you,
Barb 🙂
Good luck on the sale of your house and finding a new gem near your loved ones!
I don’t have a favorite place to find French gems. It’s random places here and there.
Blessings to you and your family, Cindy. Wishing you a smooth transition.
Thank you so much, Lina!
Dear Cindy,
God Bless you and your Family because FAMILY is everything!
Yes, they definitely are! Thank you, Carrie!
Godspeed Cindy. Have throughly enjoyed all of your lovely transformations and seeing the handy work of hubby and Ruby Lou posing. So inspirational! I know your families will enjoy having you nearby as well. My wish would have been for a grand celebration, where all of your fans could have come for a grand tour. Caio

My goodness what a surprise indeed !! I totally understand, my daughter is living only 2 hours away , but with everyone working I still do not see her much at all, sooo sad I know ! Family time is truly what is important, any house can become a HOME when there is family and love that will fill the rooms !!
God BLess,
Paula

p.s. I hope to make purchase of you sale!!
I’m sure you won’t have any problem selling your beautiful home. No matter the circumstances, to me it is a traumatic experience. We put so much effort into making our house a home that we unwittingly make them a part of who we are. I cried for a year after we downsized even though the move was well thought out and really seemed like the right thing to do. Hope all goes well for you.
Thank you so much, Margo!
My husband passed away last year, and I have made the decision to sell my home and move to Texas to be near my three daughters and their families. Although the task of selling, packing, and moving (from Oregon) is daunting, I am looking forward to being close to family and spending my “golden” years watching my grand-babies grow up. It will be fun decorating a new house, too! Wish me luck and best of luck with your move, as well. I’m sure you won’t regret it!
That’s wonderful, Joan! Good luck on your new exciting chapter!
Best wishes on your move to L.A. I’m in Mobile, Lower Alabama and love this area. Family ties are so strong. Enjoy the time that can never be recovered. (A little pun). Your creations and decorations are so lovely. My home is painted in so many colors. The family room alone has walls of red-orange, green, teal and purple. With lots of original art on those walls. But I so enjoy seeing your take on the French style. I know things will go smoothly and you will be settled in no time. {{Hugs}}
Thank you so much, Anne!
Wow-what news about a move! I have never commented on your blog but have loved every transformation you had made. It gave me a lot of great ideas and just beautiful to watch. I do hope you will keep all the DIY info on your home available. I have gone back several times getting valuable information on how you achieved a remarkable outcome. Best wishes with the up coming move.
Hi Ann! Edith & Evelyn isn’t going anywhere! So all of the information about our home transformations will still be here! We have lots of projects planned as well, so stay tuned!
I’m going to miss you guys but you know I’m in your corner, praying for the sale of your beautiful home and the transition into the perfect new home.
Thank you sweet friend! Keep praying that the right person falls in love with our home like we did!
My husband & I are thinking of selling and moving also to be closer to the kids and grandkids. Family is the most important thing, but at my age it is not an easy task to get it all ready to move. I doubt you will ever be sorry for this decision to be closer to family. Blessings on your plans!
