Autumn Touches Around the House

Autumn Touches Around the House

It will be no surprise to those of you that have followed me for awhile, that I love the Fall season!  Actually, I love the transition of each and every season, but Autumn is definitely my favorite. I adore everything about Autumn, the crisp cool days, sweaters, football, cozy warm fires, and everything pumpkin! Not to mention all of the Fall festivals that happen all across the country! In our area, we will have glorious Fall color once the leaves start changing, inspiring us to take long drives in the country to take it all in, as well.

Today, I’m sharing our Autumn Touches Around the House for the Styled + Set Fall Home Tour, hosted by my friend Lory of the beautiful blog Designthusiasm! Be sure and scroll all the way to the bottom to visit everyone’s home. If you’ve arrived here from Yvonne’s  beautiful home StoneGable, Welcome!

Years ago, I tended to get carried away with seasonal decorating, and would end up with every surface displaying some kind of decor! Over the years, I’ve embraced a simpler style, which results in less stress, easier clean up, and less clutter! This year, I wanted touches of Autumn in our main living areas, and my goal was to keep it easy and simple!

In our kitchen I used an antique bread board on the island extension and topped it with some Fall color in gorgeous jewel tones.

Hubby has been bringing me flowers from the grocery store (yes, he does all the grocery shopping…..and all of the cooking!!) every week, and this week’s flowers were perfect to fill an antique ironstone pitcher thats sitting inside a preserved boxwood wreath.

Layered in front of the pitcher are gorgeous velvet pumpkins, acorns, and pomegranate. The richness of the colors are perfect for the Autumn season.

Velvet pumpkins are the ideal Fall decor item to invest in. They can be used each year in different vignettes, and they never go out of style.

Several years ago I found gilded, beaded corn at a big box craft store at the end of the season. I fell in love with their glam look, and bought several of them.

They’re beginning to show a bit of wear, but they have such a great look hanging on another bread board in the kitchen. They are no longer available, but I did find some fabulous beaded corn here!

This small kitchen vignette makes me smile every time I pass it. Under the cloche are a pile of velvet pumpkins and acorns surrounding a “Save the Date” card of our son’s wedding coming up next year! We’re so excited, and we adore our future daughter in law!

I placed a few of our DIY moss pumpkins on one side for a bit of texture. They were so easy to make and have held up so well over the years.

We have some Sedum flowers planted in our back yard and they are such an interesting flower.

I clipped a bouquet of them, as well as some of the seed pods from our crepe myrtles, and filled the large French mustard pot that sits on our French blue commode.

Sedums have such great texture, and being able to take clippings from the yard to use in decorating is easy and inexpensive.

The icing on the cake is the faux baby boo pumpkin on the top!

I kept the decor very simple on the old heirloom farm table in the breakfast room.

There’s a burlap runner down the center of the table, and in the center is a large cast iron urn filled with velvet pumpkins.

This old farm table is very special to me because it belonged to my grandparents.

They bought it when they were first married in 1901. It’s held so many family meals over the last century, and it’s a cherished piece in our home.

The coffee table ottoman in our family room always gets updated for the change of seasons.

I have a large silver tray that was gifted to me many years ago and it usually stays on the coffee table, and I just change out the contents seasonally.

My sole nod to the most commonly used Autumn color, orange, is the scented candle sitting inside a crown.

It works well with the other neutrals and blues, and gives a pop of this more popular Fall color.

Two old chippy urns are placed on both sides of the vintage garden statue, filled with dried hydrangeas.

One of the easiest ways to add a bit of Fall color is by using dried hydrangeas. They are excellent for filling urns, buckets, or baskets, and their muted colors are ideal for reflecting the Fall season.

Sitting front and center in our foyer is the painted “fish chest”. We bought it years ago when we lived on the Gulf Coast, and even though we no longer live there, the chest is still one of my favorite pieces (notice the turtle feet?).

On top of it sits an urn that, up until a few days ago, held white coral.

I removed the coral and replaced it with more dried hydrangeas in muted blues, and a trio of moss balls sit beside the urn.

And that’s it for my Autumn decor!

We have so much going on in our lives right now that simplified decorating is the best! I know many of you can relate!

A blog post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of Miss RubyLou! She would love to be in every shot, and comes running when she see’s my camera come out!

She says, “Happy Fall, ya’ll!”
