Our petite breakfast room is going through a refresh!
Believe it or not, after living in our home for almost four years, we’re still in the process of updating some of the rooms. We’ve been working on our breakfast room refresh, and it’s almost finished so I wanted to share the updates with you!
The updates are mostly cosmetic, but it’s amazing how much paint, new curtains and chair upholstery can change a room!
The first thing I did was remove the vinyl Venetian blinds from the windows. I’m not a fan of Venetian blinds. They catch so much dust! Removing them from the breakfast room windows really opened up the room and allowed in those beautiful views of the golf course!

I ordered curtains and roman shades from Amazon in a linen like material. And to add a bit of custom detail, I added pretty drapery ribbon trim to each edge of the roman shades. If you want to add a custom detail to curtains or shades, adding ribbon to them is the perfect way to do it! I simply used sewing fusion tape and ironed the ribbon on the shades.

The walls received a fresh coat of paint with one of my favorite “go to” colors, Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams. It’s a nice neutral gray with warm undertones, making it an easy color to work with.

The crown moulding and trim was painted in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, covering up the old cream color, and we also replaced the 1990’s chandelier with an updated French Country chandelier. It’s amazing how small changes can make a world of difference.
I wanted to update my breakfast room chairs, but didn’t want to completely do away with the grain sack upholstery. So I fully reupholstered the end chairs, and the seats and backs of the side chairs, in a beautiful blue buffalo check fabric from Ballard Designs.
This gave them a new look but I can still enjoy the grain sack upholstery that I created many years ago. You can see the original post on these chairs HERE.

There’s a small alcove off of the breakfast room with a large pantry one one side and the entry to the master bedroom on the other side. I wanted to give this small space a bit of character so hubby added box moulding and a chair rail to the wall. I painted the moulding and wall in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, and then wallpapered above the moldings with a gorgeous faux grasscloth wallpaper.

The wallpaper is peel and stick and it looks just like grasscloth but without the price tag!

One of my most cherished finds is the Louis XV barometer so I hung it on this wall and the aged gilt wood looks fabulous against the blue “grasscloth” wallpaper.
I painted the pantry door in Sherwin Williams Intellectual Gray. It’s a beautiful neutral dark gray, even though this picture doesn’t show it very well due to the lighting.
As I’m refreshing each room, I’m painting the doors in this color. Painting interior doors in a dark color gives instant character and charm to your home and it’s a very inexpensive update.

The vintage French Provincial wardrobe that I transformed several months ago is on one side of the breakfast room. It holds more vintage and antique ironstone. If you missed the post on transforming this piece, you can see it HERE. It’s painted in a pale blue that compliments the chair upholstery.

The breakfast room table belonged to my grandparents (see this post HERE) and it’s gone through a couple of transitions over the years. Centered on the table is an antique dough bowl filled with (what else?) velvet pumpkins! It sits on a pretty burlap table runner that I found on Amazon (see it HERE).

The French Vaisselier is filled with my collection of ironstone, typography ware, English advertising pieces, and my cherished dairy slabs. I recently tried to edit this collection, thinking I would sell some of the pieces, but I ended up just dusting and rearranging!

I wish I could say that I’m finished with the breakfast room…..however, there’s still a couple more things to do. I’m getting ready to refinish the old farm table, and then the big update will be the floor. We’ll be updating the floor at some point, probably after we tackle the kitchen, so the breakfast room is “almost” finished!
“May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”~Numbers 6:24-26
Beautiful as always. I always appreciate all your updates. Lovely.
I love all the refresh ideas. I’ve have copied many of your ideas, and in fact upholstered your same chairs many years ago. I am too thinking I might reupholster them in velvet. Think I might have them done this time!
What a wonderful project, Cindy! It is so lovely!
I couldn’t love this more! So beautiful!
Lovely. Like all things that you do! Just an observation… I was a bit distracted from your beautiful vaisselier by the navy stand and urn next to it. I’m wondering if it might work better to only have the vaisselier on that wall? Then, all attention is drawn to that gorgeous furniture piece and its unique and charming contents. Keep us posted as you continue your renos and redos. 🙂
The room is lovely Cindy. I always love to see blue and white used together. Thanks for the idea to put ribbon on curtain or shade panels. My dining room curtains are really plain will have to add some color.
Blessings to you and yours.
Lovely refreshing of what was already a pretty room! It’s so soothing and peaceful as well!
Please don’t sell those beautiful pieces…keep dusting and rearranging…you will regret selling!
