Are you a lover of antique and vintage ironstone dishes like I am? For me, collecting ironstone dishes began with one very special piece…. ………a piece that I had completely forgotten that I even had. About five years ago, I … Continue reading

Loving an Old Mirror

Do you love old mirrors as I do? There’s something about them that always draws me in. Especially the more ornate ones, the ones that my mama would refer to as a “fancy” mirror. Usually flea markets, antique stores, and … Continue reading

How to Add Door Mouldings for Architectural Detail

How to Add Moulding to Doors | Edith & Evelyn |

One of the easiest and simplest ways to spice up a “plain-jane” room is by adding moulding and millwork to existing door trim. This creates instant architectural detail, resulting in the doors looking larger and more substantial. You wouldn’t think … Continue reading

French Sconces

French Sconces | Edith and Evelyn |

There’s a pair of french sconces in a popular catalog that I have swooned over for quite some time. But at almost $400 for a pair, they have stayed out of my (frugal) budget. Even when they’ve periodically been on … Continue reading

A Blue Christmas

We’re having a blue Christmas around our house, tucking pops of my favorite color into most of our holiday decor this year.

Since childhood, blue has always been my favorite color, and in renovating our house, we’ve decorated it in neutral grays, whites, and creams, and adding in different shades of blue.

You’ll find little bits of green, pink, and lavender here and there, but I tend to lean toward the blues. So it’s quite natural for me to be drawn to blue in our holiday decor as well.

Today I’m so happy to be joining eleven other bloggers for the “12 Days of Christmas” tour, and partnering with Tree Classics to showcase their gorgeous holiday wreaths and garlands.

I know that traditionally, wreaths and garland are usually used to decorate the fireplace mantel or the front door, and those are wonderful places to use them, however, I love using them in unexpected ways.

The wreaths and garlands from Tree Classics are gorgeous right out of the box, all they need is a bit of fluffing.

They have such a natural look, and they’re full and thick, with beautiful embellishments of pinecones, berries, and a variety of greenery.

The wreath makes a stunning table centerpiece, which is how I chose to use it in our dining room.

Both the wreath and the garland are pre-lit, making it so easy to use the wreath as a table centerpiece without having to worry about extension cords running everywhere. And my favorite feature?

The battery pack has a built in timer (6 hours on, 18 hours off).

I can turn it on in the evening and it will automatically go off after 6 hours without me having to worry about it!

Hubby surprised me with a blue poinsettia the other day……have you ever seen one? I’m sure they have spray painted it with some kind of special paint, but it’s still beautiful!

It nested into the center of the wreath perfectly!

The garland is so pretty and the perfect adornment for our antique Italian mirror.

The luxuriant foliage reminds me of the beauty of a lush evergreen forest.

It features noble fir tips complemented by pinecones, faux berries, and assorted leaf accents.

I keep large plastic bins filled with assorted faux greenery, as well as another one filled with dried hydrangeas, so I pulled out those bins and started randomly poking a few of these pieces into the garland.

I added a few of my blue Christmas balls that I’ve had forever, but the pièce de résistance is the stunning gold finial ornaments from Tree Classics.

They’re crafted from blown glass and they added the perfect finishing touch to the garland.

One of my most cherished childhood Christmas traditions was that every Christmas tree had to have a bird’s nest in it.

For many years, we always cut a fresh tree, and I can remember tromping through the woods with my brother looking for the perfect Christmas tree, and my sweet mama encouraging us to find one with an old abandoned bird’s nest in it.

She insisted that having a Christmas tree with a bird’s nest in it would bring good luck through the following year.

To this day, I will always add a bird’s nest somewhere in our holiday decor. It’s a small way to pay homage to my mother.

I brought out my old wooden goose that hubby gifted me with many, many (almost 20) years ago, and adorned it with a petite boxwood wreath.

It sits center stage on the built in china hutch.

Adding a grapevine tree with white lights, and a few moss balls completes the dining room……oh wait……

… room is complete without my little monkey making an appearance.

I had been making pom poms to adorn some of the packages, and Miss RubyLou kept stealing them and running through the house.

So I draped a couple around her neck and made her pose for me.

She looks a bit like Santa Paws……don’t you think?!?
