Fall on the Patio with bHome

Fall/Autumn· Holiday/Seasonal Decor· Home and Garden· Patio· Simple Decor

I’m sharing Fall on the Patio for today’s “Why I like to bHome in the Fall” tour. And we also have a great giveaway that you won’t want to miss at the end of the post!

bhome-image

Fall decor around our home is pretty simple these days. With all the renovating going on, I don’t feel inclined to spend days decorating every nook and cranny. It’s so much easier to decorate simply, using flowers and a few pumpkins here and there.

Fall on the Patio | Edith & Evelyn Vintage | www.edithandevelynvintage.com

We recently shared the Fall decor in our master bedroom. This week I’ve added a bit of Fall to our large patio area. It’s the first time since we bought the house, that I’ve been able to do any seasonal decorating out there, because, like the rest of the house, it was in a state of disrepair.

Fall on the Patio | Edith & Evelyn Vintage | www.edithandevelynvintage.com

It’s a large patio area, made of brick. Much of the mortar holding the brick in had deteriorated over the last 40 years, coming loose, and in some areas the mortar was completely missing.

Fall on the Patio | Edith & Evelyn Vintage | www.edithandevelynvintage.com

It took us several weeks to take each brick up, putting new mortar in, and replacing the brick. We finally finished it a couple of weeks ago….well, it’s mostly finished…we still have to add a couple of steps on each end, but I was excited to finally be able to add some fall color out there this year, using pumpkins, mums and burlap.

I realized when I was trying to get some decent photographs that I really need more patio furniture! What we have just doesn’t seem to fill up the large area.

Fall on the Patio | Edith & Evelyn Vintage | www.edithandevelynvintage.com

Most of the Fall touches are just adding the typical Fall flower, mums, in different shades of white, yellow, burgundy, and purple.

I placed them in my existing pots and urns, sitting the existing pot inside old burlap sacks.

I found some pumpkins in a gorgeous shade of pale blue gray, and one has a very unusual shape. The blue pairs nicely with the smaller white baby boo pumpkins.

Little Miss RubyLou had to get in on the action…..I thinks she’s turning into the perfect doggy model!

Last year I bought a few really cute ceramic pumpkins from Hobby Lobby, painted in gold and white. Two of them have graphics on them, “Welcome” and “Happy Harvest”. I brought those back out this year and displayed them on a burlap runner, sitting on the old old antique cast iron table.

I love garden statuary, especially angels and cherubs. They are so much fun to “dress up” for each season and holiday, and this precious fella was no exception, getting a crown filled with a moss pumpkin, little white pumpkins, a boxwood wreath, and surrounded at the base with burgundy mums.

Hubby and I have always loved having a patio or porch area. It’s been hard not having a place to sit and have coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. I’m so glad that we can now enjoy our patio during my favorite part of the year!

We’ve been painting the trim work as well, getting rid of the bright turquoise paint. I’m not sure I ever shared a before picture of the back of the house, but here is what it looked like when we bought the house.

Fall on the Patio | Edith & Evelyn Vintage | www.edithandevelynvintage.com

We removed the small brick walls that were around the patio to open it up more, and painting the windows in black and white, with a dark gray on the eaves has made a huge improvement!

Slowly, but surely, we are getting it all done!

“It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who “It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives—the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is remember.”~Ronald Reagan
