Some women collect handbags, others find that they have a weakness for shoes.
Me? A french chair is what makes my heart skip a beat.
There’s something about those curvy, feminine lines that gets me every time, making me weak in the knees when I see one. Such was the case when I found this gorgeous French chair that will be going into my newly renovated study/office.
I don’t know which grabbed my attention first.
Was it the white washed, hand carved, oak wood frame?
Was it the beautiful linen upholstery?
The color, Lagoon Blue?
Or was it those gorgeous, shapely cabriole legs?
Actually, it was all of the above!
This french chair is loaded with details and gorgeous french charm, and I knew the minute that I saw it that it was perfect for our newly renovated study.
The shade of blue in the linen upholstery is stunning.
It’s casual and elegant, all at the same time.
I have such a love affair with french chairs, and as hubby can attest, I have a hard time passing them up in antique stores, estate sales, and flea markets.
Most often when I do find one, because it’s an antique, it usually needs some kind of makeover or repair. I’ve found many that are very sturdy and in great shape, but I’ve also found quite a few that are still rickety, even after I’ve updated them.
At this very moment, I have several sitting in a storage room that are in need of some kind of makeover. And even after they are updated, sometimes I’m not too comfortable letting someone sit in them because they can still be a little fragile due to their age. When this is the case, I just use them for adding a bit of french flair in a room, stacking some old worn leather books in the seat, or a few pillows, which will usually deter anyone from sitting in them.
For my office/study I wanted something new.
I wanted a chair that had the frenchy look that I love, something with old french charm.
A chair that I wouldn’t worry about if hubby plopped down in it to have a conversation with me, and one that Miss RubyLou could lay in and nap, or gaze out the window while I work.

Sometimes a beautiful reproduction is the perfect answer.
Like this beautiful bergère chair, reproduced from an antique, from Soft Surroundings.
It’s called the Helena chair, and it’s classic lines and enduring beauty is just as relevant today as it was 100 years ago. I love it’s timeless style.
Even though it looks antique with it’s weathered, distressed oak frame, it’s brand new.
I’m always so excited when I’m out antiquing, and find an antique French bergère chair, but the prices can sometimes take your breath away…..and not in a good way!
I was thrilled when I found this one at Soft Surroundings for such a great price. Many of their pieces are reproduced from authentic French antiques, and they also offer hand picked antique French furniture directly from markets and shops in France.
Not only is this chair gorgeous in style, but it’s also very comfortable with a down wrapped seat cushion.
As soon as it arrived and we unpacked it, the first thing hubby did was “test drive” it, and agreed that it was one of the most comfortable chairs he’s ever sat in.
Miss RubyLou gives it four paws!
It looks perfect in the study, and I can’t wait to show you the full reveal!
I partnered with Soft Surroundings on this post but all opinions and “chair love” are 100% my own!
