As hubby continues to work on renovating the guest room, I’m still working on refreshing the master bedroom.
It takes awhile to pull things together around here, but one item that has finally been marked off of the “to do” list is re-upholstering the french provincial bench that I recently found at an estate sale.
The bench was a good price at $32.00, and I liked the size of it, because I wanted it to sit at the foot of our king size bed.
The previous owner had painted the legs in a chalky white paint which will work for now. At some point I may sand those legs down to the natural wood and stain them.
The bench was originally upholstered in a small yellow gingham check.
It was pretty, but didn’t work with my color scheme.
Since I had recently purchased a beautiful blue buffalo plaid from Ballard Designs to re-upholster the petite french loveseat in the bedroom, I decided this bench would also be perfect in the same fabric.
It was a quick and easy upholstery project, finishing it in just a couple of hours.
I upholstered right over the top of the original fabric since it was in good condition, and it saved time not having to strip it completely down to the bones.
I also added nailhead trim using nailhead trim strips from Amazon.
If you do a lot of upholstery, you may already know about this amazing nailhead trim.
I had not seen it before, and will definitely be using it again!
Even though I have always loved nailhead trim, but hate having to nail all those tacks.
Finding this nailhead trim strip makes it so much easier!
The trim comes in a roll and I simply laid out the strip along the edge of the bench.
At every fifth tack, there’s a hole in which you actually nail a tack into it to hold the strip down.
Nailhead trim could not be easier!
I love the way it turned out and the blue is perfect with the bedding.
Now I’m going to have to order more fabric for the loveseat!
We’ve added a few more new things to the room that you may have spied….so stay tuned.
Cheers,
Cindy
I never would have thought of upholstering right over the existing fabric. Great idea. I also love the nailhead trim. Didn’t know it existed. Thanks for the great ideas!
Thanks for commenting, Robin!
The bedroom is looking really awesome! That bed is such a dream, you have a great taste to decor!
Love the bench…you transformed it beautifully!….Yes, my local fabric store carries those strip tacks and they are great…I actually used them on the top of a table when I covered the top in faux leather…So easy and quick!
This is beautiful. Love the color and Buffalo check with the bedding. So many pretties in your bedroom. Nice dress form
Cindy
Thank you, Cindy!
That nail head trim is mint. Now I just need a project. I am working on French touches in our house – went all in with religious items in curio cabinet. We recently have gotten a Miniature Schnauzer Mille (3 mos old) who looks a lot like Ruby Lou. She is our second one and just as delightful as our late Bentley was.
Yes, you definitely need to try this nailhead trim! It’s so easy! Congrats on your new fur baby! They are the best! Thanks for commenting, Jane!
Love how the bench turned out! Do I spy that you have taken down the roman shades you made? I’m getting ready to make some, but concerned they maybe too difficult.
Yes, the Roman shades have come down. I decided to change things up!
Hi Cindy, your bench turned out beautiful, I really love the fabric, but your sweet pooch is a killer, how i love the way she poses for the camera…lol…. such a little diva…..
Mari, RubyLou is definitely a little camera diva….and spoiled rotten to boot! We adore her!
Looks great, you are so inspiring! Did you move your lovely 3 graces lamps? l seem to recall they were on the bedside nightstands (?)
Yes, we have replaced them with new acanthus leaf lamps. I’ll be moving the three graces lamps to another room.Thank you for commenting, Keli!
Beautiful…..I love your style. Did I see correctly that your Master bedroom has no door? Or does that hallway go to the bathroom….just curious.
Oh yes, the master has a door….it’s at the end of the hallway which has walk in closets and the master bath opening off of it. Thanks for commenting, Toni!
I really love everything you create and your home is a paradise. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Françoise, you are always so supportive and sweet with your comments! Thank you, dear friend!
“I spy with my little eye” a GORGEOUS new rug & lamps! Your bedroom is just dreamy! (And that’s just what a master should be!)
You are right, Cindy! I don’t know why it takes me so long to pull a room together (too many projects, I think!), but hopefully I will get this finished soon!
I love the idea of the nailhead trim strips. It would ensure they would be straight which would be hard for me if I were to do them individually. Great tip. Thank you Cindy. The bench looks so nice.
I have the same problem keeping the tacks straight! The strip is so much easier! Thanks for commenting, Mary!
The nail head trim is available in Chicagoland area @ Hobby Lobby & JoAnn fabric stores…in aisle with pillow forms & drapery making accessories.I did not like working with that trim …..
Thanks, Mar! I loved working with it….for me, it was so much easier than trying to nail in hundreds of individual tacks.
Nailhead trim strips!?! Wow!
Yes! They are so easy to use!
Love, love the buffalo check plaid fabric, it pairs beautifully with your bedding. Nail head trim strips? Genius! Thank you for sharing Cindy. Always look forward to receiving your blog
I know, right?!? The nailhead trim strips makes it so much easier and faster……and no sore fingers! Thanks for commenting!
Love the bench, the fabric is so soft and pretty. I also think the model in front of the bench is stunning
Thank you so much, Diane!
Oh Cindy I’m in love with that sweet little bench!
Thank you so much, Jean!
