Frenchy Grain Sack Dining Chairs

I have a weakness for chairs…….not shoes, handbags, or dishes……..chairs!

I love frenchy chairs…..you know….. the ones with 

curvy legs, feminine lines, romance. 

I recently found four dining chairs at a flea market that had all the requirements.

They just needed some updating from their ugliness.

Before

Which in my world is paint and upholstery.

We painted the wood in Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White,

my favorite “go to” color,

and waxed it in clear and dark wax after distressing 

to bring out some of the character.

After a good buffing to bring out the silky finish, it was time for the upholstery!

I love using antique grain sacks, especially the old German

grain sacks with the farmers name and dates stamped on them.

They, however, can be extremely hard to find and pretty pricey.

I had some antique grain sacks that were plain with just a blue stripe,

so I decided to stencil them to get the look I wanted.

and print on transfer paper and iron the image on.

We had stencils cut for us in the German script that we used.

Stamped the back with a “frenchy number”…..

love numbers!

We did the backs of the chairs in the grain sack and for the bottom,

we upholstered them in…….you got it……..Lowe’s drop cloths! 

Love them!

We love how they turned out!  

Two are done……now just two more to go!
