Holiday Magic and the Chaos of Moving!
Holiday magic is all around us, in shop windows, on every street corner, and all over social media.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful decor this year! Moving during the holidays hasn’t been fun and our house has been in total chaos as you can see in these photos.
We are leasing a home for a year to give us time to get re-acclimated with the area and decide where we want to buy a home. The home we’re leasing is about half the size of our home that we sold, so it’s been a real challenge to place furniture. It’s also an open concept home, which I’m not used to, but it’s slowly coming along!
Before we moved, I sold so much furniture and accessories, preparing for downsizing, but I’m now thinking that I should have sold quite a bit more! We may have to keep some in storage until we decide what we’re going to buy.
Things are slowly getting unpacked and furniture is getting arranged…..and re-arranged. This is the living area and I have a few more pieces to add, but it’s close to being finished. Can you see my little monkey peeking at you from the sofa? RubyLou is slowly getting used to the new home, but she doesn’t let mommy and daddy get too far out of her sight!
Today is French Country Friday, and as always, my sweet blogging friends are bringing you lots of holiday magic!
I’m enjoying seeing how they are decorating this year as much as you are! Enjoy!
Cheers, Cindy

Your living room looks beautiful! I’m so excited that I’m a 3 hour drive from you if you ever sell any more of your treasures I can actually drive to go get them! I hope you enjoy the milder warmer winters here in the south! Merry Christmas
Thank you, Monique!
Cindy, I so know what you mean about possibly not getting rid of enough stuff. I know I did not. We expected to be moved in to the new house by now but slowed down the process so I can be totally recovered from surgery. I am happy that you are near family now. Enjoy the Holidays with them!!!! Merry Christmas!!!
Thank you my sweet friend! Keeping you in my prayers, and have a very merry Christmas!
It looks good so far. Open concept isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I downsized one year ago…. several of my large pieces had to be sold. 🙁 But, it’s easy once you get accustomed to it. I have no doubt with your talent it will end up being SPECTACULAR!!!!
Thank you, Mary!
Great start; the living room looks beautiful. Bit by bit, right?
Of course the big question is….did you keep the ANGEL!!!???
Which angel, Deb? The one that was displayed in our foyer? I sold it to a wonderful friend that has a fabulous home to display her in!
Merry Christmas in Alabama John and Cindy! I’ve been wondering about little miss. Buddy did that when we first moved into this house, and every noise made him jump for a while.
You’ll have it all pulled together in no time. Of course, what you’ve already done looks beautiful. It looks like a lovely home.
Xoxo
Thank you, sweet friend! RubyLou is doing ok, she love to explore the new areas, as long as we stay within her eyesight! Merry Christmas to you and Kenny!
I think you’ll love living in Fairhope and one person you’ll surely want to meet is Leslie Anne Tarabella! She is a newspaper columnist and author of “ The Majorettes Are Back in Town .”
Your family will have a wonderful Christmas together even if your house is not in order.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Connie! Yes, I love Leslie Anne! We’re hoping to connect over coffee! Merry Christmas!
I feel your anxiety . I am in Fairhope also & I first downsized 5 years ago from 3600 sq.ft. to 2800. That move was from North Alabama. I donated so many items. After 4 years I now realized I still did not need that much space and I started the donation & downsize process AGAIN. I am now in 1900 sq ft and I still had to donate items after the move. My movers were very happy to take some items. The best part is I can now find anything I need & I am loving my open floor plan, which I thought I never wanted. You will love the area, and I just know you will find the perfect home & location.
It’s amazing how much stuff we have that we really don’t need! I’m definitely enjoying the smaller square footage, it’s so much easier to maintain which was one of my goals….to simplify! Merry Christmas Teresa!
Living room looks good. I know you are glad the moving is over with for a year at least. We downsized 7yrs ago and I sold alot of stuff and donated. Now I wish I had kept some pieces. I sure wished I lived near by you when you sold pieces……you have beautiful stuff!!
Thank you, Nancy! Merry Christmas!
Hi Cindy,
I can relate so much to this post. We sold our home in Arizona and moved to a small medieval French village in June. We are living in a two bedroom flat in a 17th-century building. While I donated a lot of our belongings, we shipped a 20 foot container loaded with goods. When the container was delivered and the mover started bringing boxes up the stairway, I freaked a little bit. So much stuff! Bedroom two has been delegated as a storage room until we find a ‘forever’ home.
Good luck, my friend. It will all work out in the end.
Merry Christmas!

Barb
Oh my Barb, what an adventure! One of our bedrooms will probably end up as storage as well. There will be some boxes that I won’t even unpack, and more will be donated. I’m trying not to stress too much over it!
This room is beautiful Cindy. You have absolutely gorgeous pieces. I would have loved to buy some of what you sold ;).
Many Christmas Blessings to you and your family.
Candy
Thank you, Candy! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I understand downsizing. A few years back we decided it was time to do the same. I found it was like putting a size 14 into a size 6. Indeed, I am still reminding myself of where is or what happened to. Good luck on this adventurous, venture! Merry Christmas, Happiest Holiday’s, Brightest Hannukah. Kind thoughts, Mac
Lol, I love your analogy! It’s definitely been a challenge working my pieces into a smaller, open concept home. Some things fit, some don’t, but for the time being it will be fine. And like you, I’m constantly wondering where some particular item is, or what happened to it! It’s an adventure for sure! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
