Add a bit of sparkle to your Summer decor with glitzy seashells!
Sometimes Summer decorating can be very simple and easy, and today I have a project that will add the perfect amount of sparkle to your home decor this Summer!
When it comes to seasonal decorating, I don’t want to spend a lot of time or money. We’re so busy around our house that simple and easy always works best!
Since moving into our new home, the project list seems to grow longer by the day and sometimes simple touches are the ideal way to change the decor for the seasons.
We’ve been working on our screened in porch for awhile by adding new outdoor wicker furniture, an outdoor rug, and a few pretty ferns. It’s still a work in progress, and there are a few more things I have planned, so it’s not finished yet, but adding these glitzy seashells was the perfect touch for Summer.
For this project, I pulled out some of my seashells that I have collected over the years. Collecting seashells has always been one of my favorite things to do when we visit the beach, and I’ve amassed quite a collection.
If you don’t have any seashells, you can find inexpensive ones at the hobby and craft stores or on Amazon.
I have always loved decorating with seashells and coral in the Summer months, but I’ve never been a fan of the kitschy beach decor. This project will definitely give your decor a coastal vibe and elevate the look of your basic seashells!
Using cans of metallic silver and gold spray paint was perfect for creating these glitzy seashells.
I simply placed the shells on cardboard in a well ventilated area and sprayed them with a couple of coats of paint, letting them dry in between coats.
This project turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for! And it was super quick and easy!
I had this old urn that I found at an antique market a few months ago. It was large with very substantial handles on each side. The size made it ideal for displaying on the coffee table on the porch.
The urn was so large, that I actually filled the bottom of it with crushed paper to fill in some of the space. On top, I placed different size moss balls, and then tucked in my glitzy seashells.
These glitzy seashells would be perfect for decorating a summer table, piled up in a bowl on the coffee table, or even lined up on a fireplace mantel.
Something so simple can be given a very elegant feel with just a can of metallic spray paint!
I hope you love my glitzy seashells on our screened porch! I’m still tweaking the porch decor and the heat has been so intense this Summer that it’s taking me longer than expected, but these seashells add just the right amount of coastal elegance!
Cheers, Cindy
Where did you get the large wire planters in the next to last photo? Fabulous!
I bought them about 20 years ago from Aidan Gray. I don’t believe they are made any longer.
I saw your star and stripe chair. Absolutely Stunning! Might you source where you found the fabric and is it upholstery grade? Thank you.
Best,
Pat
Pat, the links to the fabric are in the post about the chair. I don’t believe the fabric is upholstery grade.

I did read the article but my eye kept going to the wire vases with the ferns. What a statement. And where did you find those?
Thank you, Jo Ann! I bought the wire urns about 20 years ago from Aidan Gray. I don’t believe they are made any longer.
I absolutely love everything you do. Your ideas are beautiful. Living 10 minutes from the Pacific Ocean in gorgeous SanDiego, I too have collected many shells. You can only make so many shell wreaths! I sprayed a large starfish and he looks gorgeous! Thank you for sharing this beautiful idea. MaryJo
Thank you so much, MaryJo!
Your porch looks lovely Cindy!
Thank you so much, Lina!
