How to Create DIY Sheep Decor Using Toys from the Toy Store!
This DIY sheep decor is the perfect craft for an Easter table centerpiece! If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know that I love sheep and little lambs, especially for Spring and the Easter holiday.
During a recent shopping trip to a toy store for a birthday gift, I happened to walk past a large bin filled with plastic farmhouse animals. I’m sure you’ve seen them before because they’ve been around for decades.

Of course, the sheep figures immediately caught my eye.

They were so stinking cute!
I stood there in the toy aisle, holding one cute little sheep in my hand, thinking there had to be something that I could do with them. So I decided to purchase several and brought them home to see what I could create.

As I was deciding what to create with this DIY sheep decor, I realized that the “plastic toy” look had to go, and decided that I needed to paint them.
Originally, I thought I wanted a gold metal look, something that resembled old brass, so I started by painting all of them solid black and then layered gilding wax (Rub n Buff in Gold Leaf) over it.
The end result wasn’t what I had envisioned, so on to Plan B.

Using chalk paint in color Antique White, I dry brushed the paint over the top of each one, leaving the bottom legs and parts of the face black, to give them some definition.
Dry brushing them also left bits of the gold showing through, which I loved.

My idea was to form them into a base or pedestal of some sort so that I could change out the display for different looks, so I took some E6000 glue and glued their cute little bottoms together. (With the E6000 glue, you will need to let it cure for 24 hours).
And here’s what I ended up with.
Placing a round glass vase on top made the perfect French farmhouse vase for fresh cut flowers!

I also tried it with an ironstone bowl, using it to hold the scrubber by the sink.
You could also easily use this for holding soaps in the bathroom.

Using a small ironstone saucer, it makes a perfect base for a candle.

And this may be my favorite, sitting on top of the fireplace mantel, simply holding a moss ball.

There are so many different ways to use this DIY sheep pedestal.
If you love cows, pigs, or horses, you could use those toys instead!
This sweet pedestal would also make a precious one of a kind gift for someone special, and also would make a fabulous flower centerpiece for the Easter or Spring table.

I bought several more of these little toy sheep and I think I’m going to make one to sit on my desk for a business card holder.
I just need to find a small silver tray to sit on top.
So tell me, what would you use this for?
Cheers, Cindy

Cindy, I’ve seen those toys at our local farm store and they are quite realistic. Fun idea to turn them into a stand!! I’ve been on the hunt for a print with sheep in it. Found a lovely canvas online with a girl hugging her sheep. It might be coming to my house soon. 😉
Enjoy your pretty displays,
Barb 🙂
You really upped the ante with these. Black, then gold, then white? You are just more creative than many of us and have the touch.
That was such a clever idea. It’s impressive that you can look at a plastic sheep and get such inspiration. The end result looks like an expensive decor piece. I’m going to try it. I’ve seen these toys in stores in the past. It’s more difficult to find things since less speciality shops are around.
Tamara, if you can’t find the supplies locally, we have the links in the post to them at Amazon!
I remember this one and I love it! I think I’m going to have to visit the local gardening and farming store. They carry a small toy/farming section for children. I think they may have the sheep there. I made a faux chocolate bunny centerpiece last year! My family really enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Cindy, did you happen to purchase the sheep from the toy store in downtown Fairhope?
Hi Judy! No, I didn’t purchase them in Fairhope. I was out of town when I purchased them, but they are easily found on Amazon! A link to the sheep are within the post!
Your creativity and talents never cease to amaze me!
So sweet…love this! Wondering where I might find some sheep?
Amazon! There is a link within the post!
You are so creative. I love this little sheep pedestal. I guess I’m going to have to start perusing the toy stores!
