I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas
My childhood memories of Christmas always has this song playing in the background. Christmas was my mother’s favorite holiday and as soon as the first of November arrived, she would start planning for the holidays.
Bing Crosby’s Christmas album would be on the stereo, and “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” would be played many times over the weeks leading up to the big day.
As I decorated the foyer this year, those childhood memories kept popping up and I couldn’t get “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” out of my head.
It was appropriate since I was decorating a gorgeous flocked tree, brimming with “snow” on it’s beautiful branches.
I’ve wanted to put a Christmas tree in our foyer for several years, but I always felt like the space was too narrow. However, this flocked Alpine Spruce tree has a slender profile, making it perfect for smaller spaces.
Placing a Christmas tree in an urn or a basket is a custom detail that I love.
With this tree, I placed it inside a large urn, and decided to decorate with ornaments in neutral colors of gold and silver, with touches of blue. Those colors are so pretty against the snowy branches of the tree.
If you’ve followed me for awhile, you have heard me talk about the tradition of adding birds and nests to a tree for good luck through the upcoming year.
My mother always insisted that a tree have at least one bird’s nest tucked in somewhere, and following our family tradition, this tree has birds and nests.
Another family tradition that we started when our children were small, was hiding a pickle ornament somewhere in the tree.
The old stories claim that the Christmas Pickle was a very old German tradition and that the pickle was to be the last ornament hung on the Christmas tree. The first child to find the pickle got an extra present.
Decorating the Christmas tree always evokes so many memories from the past.
As we were adding ornaments to the tree, we were reminiscing and telling stories, and laughing at shared memories. There are so many that revolve around a beautiful tree.
I’m loving this stunning flocked tree in our foyer, topped with a star crown, with gorgeous ornaments and ribbon gracing it’s elegant branches.
It’s so full and lush, with snow piled on the needles. I’m definitely dreaming of a white Christmas!
Cheers, Cindy

Thanks for commenting, Mari! Merry Christmas!
Beautiful tree!
It’s just grand! Would you please share the source for the crown?
Thank you, Marie! The crown came from our online shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/edithandevelyn
Beauty to the up most degree. Nothing more need be said.
Thank you so much Margaret!
Very pretty!
Beautiful foyer! I’m wondering about the urn , too. Is it by any chance a heavy cast iron one? I understand that the wood pieces would be strong enough to hold it up but wouldn’t the urn itself have to be heavy enough to support such a big tree?
Yes, it’s cast iron. A heavy cement urn would work as well, but not the lightweight plastic ones.
Hi, Cindy,
Your white flocked tree is beautiful with the blues, pale greens, and golds.
Judith
Thank you so much!
The foyer tree is gorgeous. I’m with the lady above, wanting info on how to make a tree stand up in the urn. It would be lovely if you would do a tutorial or show pictures of how this process is done.
Thanks and Merry(white) Christmas!!
The tree is beautiful! I especially the the crown for a tree topper. Just starting to decorate at our home. I bought a tree last year to put in our foyer this year…can’t wait! Taking decorating a little slower this year due to radiation treatments on my nose. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, Linda! Prayers for your healing!

Happy Thanksgiving, Donna!
how did you secure the tree to the urn?
Hi Betty! We used pieces of wood wedged into the urn around the base of tree to hold it in place.
