I don’t know what it is about a new year that makes me want to clean out, re-organize, and refresh our spaces, but that’s what I’ve been doing since the first of this new year.
Closets and drawers are getting cleaned out and re-organized, and the master bedroom is getting a much needed refresh.
The bedroom may seem like the least important room in the home to decorate and refresh….after all, most of the time you spend in there, your eyes are closed!
But the bedroom is where you start and end your day.
It’s where you recharge, refresh, and renew, and waking up to a pretty room is a great way to start your day!
We finished renovating the master bedroom almost three years ago, so it’s definitely time for a few little changes…..like new bedding!
I’ve been in love with this gorgeous bedding from Soft Surroundings for quite awhile.
It has such a soft, romantic, and vintage look to it with whispers of an Italian Florentine design.
I’ve been wanting to bring in some soft color this year, and the Regency tapestry coverlet fit the bill perfectly, with a regal and lavish look.
The coverlet has a center medallion on a beautiful sky blue background, surrounded with flowers and scroll designs.
It’s made up of shades of blue, gold, chartreuse and blush, and looks like a work of art.
The coverlet is exquisitely crafted of pure cotton in the traditional Flemish style of weaving.
Our king size mattress is a deep width and many times sheets, bedspreads, and duvets won’t cover the mattress on all sides.
I was a bit worried that the coverlet wouldn’t fit, but it’s very generous in size and it covers the mattress all the way around.
The bedskirt was also changed, and I chose a romantic silky balloon bedskirt that puddles on the floor. It has a very generous 18″ drop, so it works perfectly as well.
And the matching shams have beautiful cording around the edges.
I was so anxious to get the new bedding on the bed that I didn’t take time to iron it….so I will be getting my steamer out this week to get the wrinkles out of the bedskirt.
I also have plans to re-upholster the little french loveseat in this buffalo plaid fabric.
I ordered the fabric quite some time ago and was thrilled that the blue in the tapestry coverlet matches perfectly!
We recently found a french style bench that’s quite long and is just the right size to sit at the end of the bed. I will upholster it in the same fabric as the loveseat.
We’re going to move some furniture around, bring in some new pieces, refresh the drapes and bring in some different lamps, so stay tuned as the refresh progresses!
I’m in love with this new bedding…….and RubyLou’s pretty smitten with it as well!
A great place to start with a bedroom refresh is new bedding.
It can set the tone for the rest of the room, and there’s nothing like coming home to a well dressed bed!
Cheers,
Cindy
{The bedding was supplied by Soft Surroundings, but my love for this bedding is 100% true!}

Love the new bedding and bedroom refresh Cindy. I can’t wait to see more. Have a wonderful Sunday and blessed week.
Thank you, Robin!
Oh Cindy, the new bedding is judt gorgeous and perfect in your beautiful bedroom! I know you will get much enjoyment out of it. Looking forward to all the new changes!
Thank you so much, Pinky! This week, we added a new rug and lamps, and I finally started tackling the upholstery projects, so hopefully I can get it finished soon!
I have loved this bedding since Amy Chalmers put it on her bed and posted. I would so love to have it but my worry is my 2 “ginormous” labs that sleep with me. They shed so much that even with turning it down, it would get soiled. I may just get it and save it. The room is just so lovely and has always been my inspiration bedroom. I need to get the Craigslist French gilded and caned bed I bought and start my restoration. I so want to paint it white but it has the original gilding with the red underneath. The cane is painted black…ewwww ! So much to ponder ! Just love everything you touch !
Oh, where is the buffalo check from?
I know, Rhonda, I fell in love with this bedding when I saw it on Amy’s blog as well! The colors are beautiful! The buffalo check came from Ballard Designs!
Your new bedding is gorgeous, Cindy! Yes, It really does remind me of Italian Florentine, which I have loved since I saw the first piece of it (many!) years ago.
Just wondering if you painted the cane in your bed w/your special burnt umber glaze. When you do your glaze, do you apply it w/a brush? Also, do you try to get it perfectly uniform? Thanks for sharing your pretty refreshed room.
Hi Kay! Yes, I stained the caning with my burnt umber glaze! I used a brush for this to get it in all of the nooks and crannies, and wiped back a little bit with a soft cloth. I really don’t worry too much about getting it perfectly uniform….I usually roll with the imperfections! I hope this helps! Thanks so much for commenting!
Beautiful job! Thanks, Cindy.
Thank you, Kay!
Gingham check…always a favorite from the tiny pin point to the jumbo buffalo. This all so beautiful.
Thank you so much, Elizabeth!
How gorgeous Cindy!….So perfect for your beautiful bedroom. I have that very same buffalo check and love it…the settee will look amazing with that fabric….and I see Miss RubyLou loves the new bedding too!
Thank you, Shirley!
Hi Cindy, New bedding makes the whole room look different. Lovely. Wish my bedroom was big enough for a bench or chair. Enjoy your fresh new look. Hugs, Pat
Thank you, Pat!
I always admire this bedding from Soft Surroundings. It will be pretty with the bench you recover. Love the mirrors over your bed. Always enjoy seeing Ruby Lou. She is a poser
Cindy
RubyLou definitely likes having her picture taken! Thanks for commenting, Cindy
I’ve seen the bedding, but it never looked as lovely as it does on your bed. And that buffalo check! It’s going to all be perfect! I’m feeling a tad jealous, but mostly just in love!
Ginger, the bedding is really quite lovely, and I’m loving the new colors! I’m so happy that the buffalo check is going to work!
These colors are just beautiful.
Thank you so much, Lisa!
Gorgeous! I have gained so much inspiration from your site, thank you! I have a question about the coverlet. We sleep with our pug, so I need to launder our bedding more often than most. I’ve always put two twin duvets on my king bed (I learned this in Germany) because it makes laundering so easy, but I’d LOVE a King sized coverlet if I knew I could launder it at home. Do you know if you are going to be able to launder this at home, or will you have to send it out for cleaning? I have an average-sized front loading washing machine.
Sarah, the coverlet is 100% cotton, made in Belgium, and it is dry clean only. We have ours laying on top of a duvet, and at night we fold the coverlet to the end of the bed so that RubyLou isn’t laying on it, she’s just on the duvets. The duvets are easy to throw in the washing machine, and by folding the coverlet to the foot of the bed at night, it should delay having to clean it very often. I hope this helps!
I love what you’ve done so far, and can’t wait to see the rest you’ve planned. I know how long some things take (I’m upholstering a chair for our bedroom) and I’m excitedly, patiently waiting for you!
I am so slow and getting things done, Sherri! I’m refreshing the master bedroom at the same time that we’re completely renovating a guest bedroom, so there’s never enough hours in the day! Thanks for commenting!
So beautiful!
Thank you so much, Penny!
I love the update. I have been eyeing the beautiful bedding in the Soft Surround catalog…gorgeous!
The quality is wonderful…..I love this bedding!
RubyLou is a star! This bedding is beautiful. Your home is exquisite.
Thank you so much, Betty!
Your new bedding is exquisite, Cindy! I love the rich colors–and they go beautifully with the flavor of your bedroom. It is just gorgeous. How lucky, and fun, that the blue check fabric you ordered will match the blue in the new bedding! It will be fun to watch this renewal taking place–I am looking forward to seeing it unfold!
Thank you, Anita! I’m trying to get up enough energy to tackle the upholstery on the loveseat!
I love this bedding from Soft Surroundings. What is so funny is that I ordered it with the blue bedskirt and curtains. I told my daughter as much as I loved it , I was afraid that in a few months they would have one that I liked even better. Sure enough, they did. It has a black background but with that beautiful blue of the bed skirt and curtains. I had to have it. It is so gorgeous. I really like their products. Can’t wait to see your finished bedroom. I’m about to add a French country chandelier to finish my French country bedroom. It’s been a slow work in progress but I’ve enjoyed the process. Than you for sharing your home.
Oh, I’ve seen the one with the black background, Claire, and you are right, it is gorgeous! All of our rooms are a slow process, but it is wonderful to see them evolve over time! Thanks for commenting!
Oh so dreamy! And I love my Soft Surroundings catalog but haven’t purchased anything from them yet. The bed itself is similar to mine, but mine is all white, so I am pinning to remind me that when I want a change I should go brown on the cane. I love the mirrors… in fact the whole room is perfection.
🙂 gwingal
Thank you, Nikki! Our bed started out as all black (the way it was purchased), then I painted it all white, and the last transformation was staining the cane. Now, I’m beginning to think that I would like the entire bed painted a soft gray with antiqued details, and maybe the addition of a few frenchy furniture mouldings…..hmmm…another project!
Hi Cindy,
I can’t wait to see the bench covered in the blue check… and Miss RubyLou is as regal as the bedding! She’s elegance in a small bundle. 🙂
Thank you, Mary! We adore our sweet Miss RubyLou!
Cindy the makeover is beautiful as usual!!! You are so talented!!! I think Miss Ruby Lou thinks you did it for her!!!! Haha!! Bless you and yours!!
Thank you, Joyce! Blessings to you!
Cindy, your room is stunning and with the addition of those buffalo checks, it will be even more beautiful.
Thank you, Stacey!
I love love love love the new bedding! And the buffalo check fabric is gorgeous! I’ve been in the same clean/purge mode this year. You’re inspiring me to more!
It’s so freeing to purge and clean! Thanks for commenting, Debbie!
Simply Gorgeous!
Thank you, Maureen!
Such a beauty of a bedroom, its amazing how a new bedding is all you need for a new feel. Pinning.
Thank you so much!
A really beautiful bed spread, Cindy. The fabric for the couch is gorgeous, too!
Have you thought about spray painting the wicker on your bed ends? Just an idea…I think it would look lovely, since you’re doing a wee makeover!
I’ll look forward to seeing your curtain fabric in the future. How exciting! X
The caning on the bed was actually painted white at one time, and then we decided to re-stain it. I’m tossing around the idea of completely painting the bed frame in a soft gray and adding some french furniture mouldings. I haven’t quite decided yet! Thanks for commenting, Dale!
It’s beautiful isn’t it?! I adore mine!! Your bedroom looks amazing!
Thank you, Amy! Now, if I can just get it finished!
Seems like yesterday that we saw you update the bedroom. Looking forward to see the changes you make.
I know, I can’t believe it’s been almost three years since we renovated this room! Thanks for commenting, Alice!
The new bedding is gorgeous. Proof is that Miss Ruby Lou thinks so. I will be anxious to see your bench when it is covered in the lovely blue checked fabric.
Have a sweet week!
Thank you, Sandra!
Cindy,
I,too, have loved the soft surroundings coverlet. It is so perfect for your elegant bedroom. Can’t wait to see the settee after it is covered in that wonderful buffalo check. All miss Ruby needs is one of your crowns as she lounges on the bed.
Diane, I’ve tried getting RubyLou to wear a crown….so far she’s not having it! Thanks so much for commenting!
