New Antique Finds For Our Home!
I’ve added several new antique finds to our home over the last several months that I haven’t shared on the blog so I thought I would do that today!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a few sneak peeks of them already!
The antique French Vaisselier made an appearance on the blog a couple of weeks ago, and it’s probably my favorite addition.
I love changing things up, and the Vaisselier definitely gave the breakfast room a new look, as well as provided a bit more space to display my ironstone typography collection.
A dear friend of mine is an avid antique collector and has a swoon worthy home filled with gorgeous curated European antiques. I love visiting him and drooling over his beautiful unique decor and collections, and each time I visit I see something that I didn’t see before! He has fabulous taste and we share a love of so many things. We definitely cannot go shopping together because we would fight over the same pieces!
Like me, he’s always searching for new pieces of furniture or additions to his collections. And, like me, every so often, he edits his home to make room for his latest finds, so things are always evolving. A few months ago, he decided to downsize some of his collections and furniture, and luckily, I was able to purchase a few beautiful pieces, which I’m going to share with you today!

Antique and vintage sunburst mirrors, especially those of Italian origin, are a weakness of mine for years!
Authentic sunburst mirrors are very hard to find and can be very pricey. So when my friend said that he had two small sunburst mirrors that he was selling, I knew that I wanted them immediately!
The larger one was purchased in Europe many years ago, and it’s made of Italian wood with gorgeous gilding.
The smaller one is a newer piece, probably only 20-25 years old, but I still love it.
Sunburst mirrors are so much fun to hang in a grouping or layer them with other gilded mirrors for added texture. For the time being, I have them layered with other mirrors on top of a vintage French Provincial chest that belonged to my mother in law. But I’m sure they will get moved around to a few other areas at some point!

This vintage sofa table was an estate sale find a couple of months ago. I actually found it on the last day of the 3 day sale.
How I missed it the first two days, I have no idea. And I’m amazed that no one else had purchased it.
The table has been painted at some point in gorgeous turquoise blue and fabulous gilding.
It stopped me in my tracks when I saw it, and of course, I argued with myself that I didn’t really need it, but that color of blue gets me every time!
I love everything about the sofa table and wouldn’t change a thing about it. It’s a versatile pice, so I will be able to use it in different locations if I decide to change things up.
Did you notice that gorgeous antique Louis XV ottoman under the sofa table? That’s another piece that my friend was selling!
The curvy legs and gorgeous carvings in the gilt wood call my name!
It was originally upholstered in old gold fabric, so I quickly reupholstered it in gorgeous pale blue velvet fabric from Ballard Designs and added nail head trim.
The ottoman is another piece that can be displayed in so many different rooms and is perfect for extra seating. The gilt wood has acquired some wear over the last century, which I love because it tells it’s history.
Many of you may already know this, but I’m slightly obsessed with carved altar sticks.
They are perfect for displaying candles as well as moss balls!
I have a collection of them that I move around and I display them in different ways.
Currently, they are gathered in the middle of the dining table. I’m always on the hunt for them. Some that I find, I sell, and some I keep.
When my friend started cleaning out and purging his collections, he found three antique altar sticks that he decided to sell, so of course I bought them to add to my collection!
They are really old and chippy which makes them perfect in my eyes!
The third one was made into a lamp and I decided to leave it as found. All of them have such beautiful old gilding which is something that can’t be re-produced in newer pieces.
This antique salesman’s sample of a Louis XVI chair has caught my eye every time I would visit my friend’s home.
When he expressed interest in selling it, I immediately told him that I would buy it!
I’ve never seen one like it, and it still retains the original pale green upholstery and paint.
I’ve moved it around to several places, but I still haven’t settled on the best display place yet.
It’s diminutive size makes it quite the conversation piece!
Last, but certainly not least…..I’ve been looking for an armoire to put into a spare bedroom to hold small pieces that I sell in our online store.
My friend had this amazing antique circa 1860 French armoire in his family room. He bought it years ago from a local antique dealer, and like me, sometimes he plays musical chairs with furniture, moving pieces around, buying something new, selling something to make room, etc.
He recently bought a beautiful French cabinet, and the only place it would fit is the spot where this armoire stood! So he offered the armoire to me!
It took some maneuvering and hiring a local moving company to pick it up and deliver, but it was well worth it. This is one of those pieces that I can use in so many different rooms. For now, it’s working perfectly for the extra storage that I needed!
The antique armoire is everything that I love….French and painted wood!
The old paint is in shades of blue with beautiful hardware adorning the doors.
Over the last century, the paint has become naturally worn and shabby. And would you look at those French snail feet! Perfect!
There you have it, my latest antique finds! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these beauties!
My next project is to paint this vintage French Provincial chest on chest that belonged to my mother in law.
Dating to the mid century, it has great lines, but it has become quite worn over the years. I’ve used it in just about every room in the house, and right now it’s being used for extra storage in our living room.
I’m trying to decide on the color scheme, and it’s going to get a much needed makeover soon!
Cindy,
That blue sofa table is so beautiful!

Loved seeing all the pictures and especially loved your comments!!!!! So happy I have found you ha. I bought French Cottage Journal and found you that way. I saw where you had moved to Fairhope, I go there about once a year. Let me know if you have a shop there.
Hi Glenda! We have a space at Antiques at The Loop in Mobile, AL!
Such beautiful treasures for your home! I hope you will take lots of photos and do a tutorial for us when you paint the chest. I have a similar piece overdue for a redo and I love your style!
Your new home is coming together beautifully!
I just watched an English version of Antiques Roadshow (Season 20 Episode 21) on youtube. They showed an antique French starburst wall clock. The woman also said that she was very interested in Catholic iconograpy so thought of you.
Thank you! I will have to see if I can find it!
Cindy, it’s like a beautiful magazine going thru your home. Such great finds ! I love miniatures and that sample chair is awesome.

Aw, thank you so much, Nancy!
It’s always so fun to see a new post from you. This one was a real treat! How fortunate you are to have a friend with as great taste in antiques as you-how convenient when he needs to purge!
I agree, Shelley! Thank you for commenting!
Oh so beautiful! I love your taste! You have influenced my decor more than any other blogger! I have since collected 4 sets of gold alter candle sticks, all old, have a display of Mary statues, and several roseries. I have some gold framed paintings of our Father and Mary etc. that are antiques.
I love gold, french and have also gotten a few pieces at auction from old churches that have closed. Thank you for giving us such beauty to follow!
Oh, that’s wonderful, Shelly!!
Wish my house was bigger, then I would buy and buy and buy…..theresa
It’s definitely challenging in a smaller home. We’re living in a smaller house now and I have to switch things around and sometimes sell something to bring in another!
Oh what fine and lovely finds. Definitely swoon worthy. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Deb!
