Our lives have started a new chapter, and it begins with a new home!
After selling our home in Missouri, moving back to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and living in a rental for the last two years, we have finally found our new home! So, a new chapter begins!
Our original plan was to live in a rental for a year while we searched for the right neighborhood and home. However, the unforeseen COVID pandemic hit and messed up those plans. We ended up extending our lease to wait out the pandemic and to give us a little bit more time to search for the right home to buy.
We searched and searched, but couldn’t seem to find what we were looking for. We knew exactly what we wanted but it seemed like nothing on the market fit the bill.
Hubby and I were both getting pretty discouraged when this beautiful home in a golf course community went up for sale, and after taking one look at it, we both knew it was the one. We literally made our offer as soon as we walked through it! Hubby is a passionate golfer so he is in heaven!
We moved in a little over three months ago and we’re finally getting settled in. We absolutely love our new home! It is exactly what we were looking for!
I’m going to take you on a little tour today and show you our home as it was when we looked at it.
I took the photos with my phone as we toured the home when it was still for sale, so I apologize for the quality.
This is the front view of the house. It has a circular drive in the front, with a double garage around on the side.
After living in larger homes, hubby and I both wanted something smaller, around 2500 sq ft. While I love larger two story homes, we’re both at the age that we don’t want the maintenance any longer and wanted something more manageable with living on one level.
The front entryway is so pretty with mature azaleas on each side of the walkway, and a beautiful Chinese Maple on one side.
All of the landscaping is mature and lovely with lots of azaleas, hydrangeas, and roses. All we’ll need to do is prune and trim everything because it hasn’t been done in awhile. I can’t wait to have flowers in the yard again!
The stained front door has beautiful side lights with beveled glass. I love the transom over the door. The wood is a bit weathered from the sun, so I will need to sand and re-stain.
I can’t wait to place potted topiaries on each side of the door, and put a pretty wreath up.
This is looking back at the front door from inside. It has a lovely small foyer as you enter the home.
The transom over the door has an interesting pleated shade that appears to be made of some kind of paper. I’m going to remove that and open up the window to let the light in.
The house was built in the late 1990’s and the light fixtures reflect that era. I will eventually replace most, if not all, of them for something in a French style.
This view looks into the dining room which is to the left of the front door.
The home has beautiful crown moulding and architectural details which I love. The dining room is large with high ceilings, a gorgeous chandelier, and wainscoting.
I’ve never been a fan of wall to wall carpeting, and this home has real hardwood floors throughout.
This view is looking back toward the front door. I love the columns!
Looking into the living room from the dining room, you can see a gas fireplace on one wall with a bank of windows on the right which looks out over the golf course.
Even though we love our fans in the South, I plan on replacing the one in the living room with a pretty French style chandelier.
I love the high ceilings and all the wide crown moulding.
Next, we are going into the kitchen area.
The kitchen is probably going to need the most updating. At some point I would like to replace the countertops, and even though all of the appliances work fine, they will get replaced with stainless.
I don’t know why there is a ceiling fan in the kitchen, but it will be coming down and more recessed lighting will go in.
The cabinets are in great shape and were all refaced and new hardware added prior to the house being put on the market.
There’s a good size breakfast room off of the kitchen with large windows that look over the golf course.
I plan on repainting the walls and replacing the 1990’s light fixture.
The door on the left leads to a screened porch, and the opening on the right leads into the master bedroom.
Looking toward the breakfast room from the kitchen.
This is the master bedroom. It’s large with high ceilings and gorgeous windows.
The only thing I really want to change in this room is the ceiling fan. I would prefer a beautiful chandelier, however we may have to live through the summer season first to make sure we’ll be fine without it!
At some point, I’m going to paint the walls. I haven’t decided on the color yet, even though I adored the wall color of our last home. I may end up going with the same color, which was Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. It is such a great neutral gray.
This doorway in the master bedroom leads into the ensuite hallway with large double walk in closets on both sides, and then into the master bathroom.
I am in love with our master bathroom! It is such a fabulous large space!
It is beautifully wallpapered in a gray and white stripe. It’s so hard to tell in these photos, however it’s really pretty wallpaper and appears to have been recently installed.
There are a few cosmetic changes that I want to make in here, but not many. I would like to update the light fixtures, and replace the shower door with a frameless door, as well as the sink fixtures.
The home has four bedrooms in total, with the master on one side of the home, and the other three bedrooms on the other side of the house.
We’ll have one guest room, and make the other two bedrooms into an office space for me, and a shipping/packing/storage room for our online shop.
All of the bedrooms are a nice size with spacious closets.
This bedroom has great built in’s so I plan on using it for our online shop’s packing/shipping area.
It also has a great storage closet, so it will work perfectly for my business.
The guest suite bath is quite large and it will need some minor updating as well.
Even though the current wallpaper is pretty, I feel like it’s a bit outdated.
There are three bathrooms in total, including a small one that’s just off of the garage by the laundry room.
This small powder bathroom is a decent size with a full walk in shower. It just needs some cosmetic changes to bring it into the current decade.
I love the screened in porch on the back of the house.
We’ve always enjoyed sitting outside, but unfortunately, mosquitoes think that I’m quite the tasty morsel!
It’s nice to be able to sit outdoors and enjoy the weather without being eaten alive!
There’s also a nice size patio off of the screened in porch.
Our backyard is right on the golf course and we have a bird’s eye view of the #6 green.
Hubby has been a passionate golfer for many, many years, so he’s thrilled with the location and view.
This is the view of the back of the house, looking from the golf course.
I have lots of plans and I’m sure rooms will get decorated and re-decorated many times over.
Now that I’ve shown you the “bones” of the house, I will start sharing some of the spaces as we get moved in and the decorating begins. So stay tuned!
Cheers, Cindy
You can see our previous home HERE.
Congratulations on finding your new home. Now the fun and work begins! It will be beautiful when you put your special touches on it.
So excited for both of you! This is a beautiful home, and I can’t wait to see it decorated. I’ve missed your posts. Congratulations.
Love, love, love that you have found your new home. I watched as you transformed your first home and will anxiously await your transformation of this house. I have a similar home so may emulate some of your style.
I am also happy for hubby as he is so supportive of you, and now he has a dream come true.
Know you’ll make new friends and be close to family as well.
Much joy for you!
Thank you so much, Pam! ❤️
So happy you found your new home. Congratulations Cindy! I have missed your posts. Look forward to seeing all your new decorating.
Congratulations on finding the home you two love! Now I’m ready to see you put your touch in this house…I’m so excited because I know it will be gorgeous!!
Cannot wait to see what you do with this house. It has great bones, so with your touch it will be gorgeous. Please remind me of the name of the place you have your antique booth and when the auction takes place in Mobile. I have friends that we are thinking about coming down one day.
Antiques at the Loop in Mobile. The monthly estate sale is at Olde Mobile Antiques Gallery the first weekend of every month. You can follow them on their Facebook page to see sneak peeks of the each sale!
You are right. It is a beautiful find just as it is but you will make it grand I am sure. Congratulations on your home and looking forward to your beautiful renovations. Enjoy!
Congratulations on your new home! It’s absolutely beautiful!
Can’t wait to see what you do with this house!
I’ve been so excited to get a look at your new home, even MORE excited to see what you do to it! We just downsized to about the same size home on a golf course last year. Deciding what stays and what goes has been the hard part of downsizing. Love the smaller, easier to keep home and do NOT want to stuff it too full! I have a hint that might work for you. Our breakfast room has a great view like yours. We chose to use it for a small informal den. We have a formal dining room and a kitchen bar area and didn’t need more eating area. This little den is our favorite room. Just an idea I thought I’d pass along.
So pleased that you have found a new home that suits you both! Your patience was worth it! Looking forward to seeing it with your added touch! X
Whoo Hoo!!! My soul is like a bottle of bubbly champagne about to explode! Congratulations on your new home! That is definitely a true blessing from God, after what you two went through! I’m getting my popcorn ready to watch what you and Hubby will do with the new renovations….and DECORATE! (like the interior design from your previous house in MO…loved it so much!). So happy for both of you!
So happy that you’ve found a home you love! Excited to see what you do with it!
I love your new home and cannot wait to see your renovations. I have enjoyed all your posts for years and purchased many items online. I hope you enjoy your beautiful new home!
Love your blog and your old home. So happy that you have found a new home to love. Love the floral wallpaper in the bath, but it would have been way better as accent wall in a bedroom. Looking forward to the seeing all the beautiful updating and decorating in your new home!!!
Hot dog!! You found the perfect canvas to work on! I loved your old home, and I was so sorry to see you move. But BOY! You get your cake and to eat it too! I can’t wait to see your projects! Congratulations!
So happy for you . . . and now that COVID is over, we need to meet for coffee! We’ve been living in the same town for a while now and I’d love to get together sometime. I can’t wait to see what you do with this wonderful blank canvas.
So happy for you and such a beautiful home. I’m looking forward to you sharing the decorating process as you turn it into the gorgeous home I know it will be!
Thank you so much, Char! ❤️
Good for you! We’re excited to be a part of this new adventure with you. Can’t wait to see what you do!
Thank you so much, Deb!
Cindy, I’m so happy that you and John found the perfect home for you! I love the architectural details and it looks like there’s not a lot of renovating to be done…how exciting! And, anyway, John’s going to be busy golfing, right? I can’t wait to see how it looks when you add your French touches! Congratulations.
Thank you, Judy! No extensive renovating will need to be done, just some cosmetic changes that I can mostly do myself a little at a time. Lol! John is golfing as I type this!
Can’t wait to see what you do! Followed ;you when you were in your home in MO.
Thank you so much, Mary!
Congratulations on your new home. Our floor plan is very similar to yours, was built in 1994. It’s on golf course, too, Hole #4, and my golfer hubby has been a happy man, too. I played for many years but right now my clubs are collecting spiderwebs. Guess I need to dust them off and get back out there. We have tried to keep our home updated thru the years but it could use a refresh. I can’t wait to see what you do from your front door to the screened porch. Enjoy your wonderful new home !
Thank you, Shirl! ❤️
Congratulations Cindy! I am so excited for you and for all the coming posts! Beautiful views and home!
Thank you so much, Lina!
Looks like you found a gem. I can’t wait to see your lovely things in there. You have such a nice touch, your home will look stunning in no time. Congratulations.
Thank you, Susan! ❤️
You are certainly missed in Missouri but I know downsizing is critical. I am 72 and my husband is 75 but does not want to retire. I love your website and I know in following you that this home is going to be outstanding. I has all the right bones as they say. Looking forward to watching the transformation. I wish I could take the leap
Thank you, Diane! As I get older, I have the desire to simplify and downsize, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful at the same time! I’m looking forward to decorating this smaller home and putting my spin on it. Missouri will always be my home, and I still have family there, so I know we will visiting often! Thank you so much for commenting! ❤️
I am so happy for you & hubby. What about Ruby Lou? I have missed hearing from you, love you blog.. I loved your last house & all the work you two did, so beautiful. Thank you so much, Katrina! ❤️
Congratulations on your beautiful new home in such a lovely setting! As others have stated, I am looked forward to seeing your future posts and have missed you! Also, I would love to have a chandelier in the bedroom, but living in Texas, I have opted for the ceiling fan.
Thank you, Lurlie! I love a chandelier in the bedroom as well, but I’m holding off to see if we need it through the stifling Summer in the South.
Wow dear Cindy, what a beautiful house ! It perfectly suits you and how serendipitous for John and his passion for golf !! It was just meant to be, no doubt ! I am so looking forward to seeing what you will do with this already gorgeous house ! You have a screened-in porch !!! I’m soooo jealous right now, I’ve always wanted one !! We’re looking into installing one in the near future. I know that following along and looking at the pictures will bring so much joy to all of us who have found you and are so privileged to have you in our lives. Gracious thanks for taking us along and “happy designing” dearest Cindy. Big hugs ! LindyLou xxx
Dear friend, LindyLou, thank you so much for your sweet, kind words! ❤️ You have followed me for so long, and you are such a treasure! We are loving our new home, and I love seeing how happy John is living right on the golf course. I love a screened porch, and we haven’t had one for quite a while. I can’t wait to use it! Much love!
Cannot wait to see you work your magic! So happy that you guys found your perfect place!!
Thank you so much, Jennifer! ❤️
Those wood floors are gorgeous! Love the kitchen and the bathroom with the rose flowers wallpaper I adore. Can’t wait to see how you add your classy French touches.
Thank you so much, Monique!
Lovely! Happily awaiting posts as you transform your new home.
Thank you, Linda!
Cindy, you and I are twins from different mothers! We have the same tastes and design aesthetic. I love your new home! We just moved in Nov. 2019 and tall ceilings were a must as was a one story! But I’m jealous – you have a screened in porch and are on the golf course!! Just kidding – no jealousy here – just happy for you and yours to finally get settled into your own home again. I KNOW it will be lovely – can’t wait to watch the transformation!
Thank you, Karen!❤️
I’m so excited for you and have missed your blog! I knew you had moved here, but I remember you had health issues too. I pray you are feeling better as you begin your new adventure. This looks a bit like Rock Creek! I’m nearby.
Thank you, Anne! We’re in Quail Creek! ❤️
This home is so perfect for you guys!!! I love it. I’m so happy for John to be on his golf course. He’s longed for everything about this spot for so long. I’m just so happy for you guys and look forward to seeing yours and John’s talent to be shown off. Congratulations!!! XOXO
Thank you, Debbie! John is over the moon that it’s on the golf course! He’s playing a round of golf with his new buddies as we speak! It’s nice to see him so happy! Miss you guys! ❤️
That really makes me happy! I sure miss you guys too. I was talking with a friend about the estate sale. Maybe we will make it down sometime. I’ll sure let you know if we do!
Yes, please do!!
This house is going to become a home with your talents in decorating! I’ll be so excited to see what you do. It’s a lot of work but when you have a blank slate it’s so fun to create the perfect space. I’m looking forward to your future posts Cindy!!
Blessings, Edie Marie
Thank you so much, Edie Marie! ❤️
Oh Cindy I am so happy for you to have found such a lovely home. I can’t wait to follow your updates and decorating.
Thank you so much, Deborah! ❤️
It is lovely! My mind is already decorating your house with all the pretties we’ve seen through the years. Enjoy the adventure. After it is all over, feet up with a cup of tea on the screened porch. Hopefully the weather will be accommodating, perhaps fall time frame? It will be a pretty view.
Thank you, Melva! We’re looking forward to using the screened porch, especially in the Spring and Fall!
Congratulations! It’s already beautiful, but I can’t wait for pictures as you make it your own. With your beautiful style and great eye. It will be fun to be taken along this new journey. I’ve missed your blog posts SO much, I’m very excited for you!
Thank you so much, Shelley! It’s been hard to get back into the blogging routine, but I’m working on it! ❤️
Very nice! Love your view! Is the front exterior white and the rear exterior red brick?
The front of the house is stucco, and the sides and back is brick. The stucco is painted a yellowy color….it’s on the list to repaint!
This will be fun to watch as you make it yours. You and your husband are some of the most talented remodeler’s I have ever seen! I can’t wait!
Thank you so much, Ann! ❤️
Such a lovely house. I look forward to seeing what you do with it
Thank you, Renae!
This is a lovely house. Can’t wait to see what you do with it! I just know you’ll have fun decorating it, and it will end up beautiful and charming.

There is no doubt that you will transform this home into a stunning beauty. You have exquisite taste and great vision. Congrats on your new home.
Thank you so much, Deb! ❤️
So very happy for you Cindy!!! I love our mainly one level home. Your kitchen reminds me so much of the layout of Kim’s (Savvy Southern) kitchen. I am so looking forward to all of your beautiful transformations!!
Thank you, Shirley!
Congratulations!
Thank you so much, Rosemarie!
Can’t wait to see how you decorate this lovely home. Your last one was stunning!

Merci beaucoup, Cathy! Ce sera un travail en cours!
I can’t wait to see the updates and changes you make. Our home is quite similar in size, age and style. I hope to apply (steal) your ideas to update our home. Thank you for sharing.
