The refresh in our small guest bathroom is finally finished and I couldn’t be happier!
The refresh in our small guest bathroom has taken longer than I expected, but it’s finally finished, and I love the end result!
I started giving it a mini makeover months ago, and then the holidays came along and everything came to a standstill. I also realized that hubby and I don’t work quite as fast as we used to!
This small guest bathroom is located in our back hallway that leads to the garage and sits just off of the dining room. It’s a very small full bath with a walk in shower, which mainly serves as a powder room for visiting guests and family.
I wanted to give this small guest bath an updated look without doing any major renovations. So the first thing we did was add a chair rail to the wall with picture frame moulding below. I love adding this detail to a room for a custom look. This is such an easy way to elevate the look in a room without a lot of work or expense.
Here’s the before…..pretty basic builder grade bathroom, however it did have crown moulding which is always a plus.
And here’s the after….
I apologize for the quality of the photos. This little bath doesn’t have any windows or natural light, so it was very difficult to photograph.
We began this refresh by removing the builder grade mirror which had been glued to the wall. It took lots of patience and some finesse, but we finally got it removed all in one piece without a lot of damage to the wall!

I had a beautiful gilt wood beveled mirror that I bought almost 35 years ago, and it fit perfectly over the sink. Replacing a builder grade bathroom mirror with a vintage or antique mirror is an ideal way to add instant character.
We also replaced the 30 year old wall light fixture with an antique brass three light fixture.
Small changes can make such a huge impact. You don’t have to do a full on renovation to update and refresh a space.
Above the chair rail, I added new peel and stick wallpaper from Love Vs Design.
Their wallpaper can be customized in the patterns and colors that you want. You simply pick the pattern and then decide what colors you want it finished in. The pattern that I chose is called Tropical Leaves in the custom colors of Fauna and Shell.
This is the first time that I had actually installed peel and stick wallpaper and it was very easy. I love knowing that if/when I tire of it, removing it will be easy and there won’t be any wall damage or glue residue to deal with.
We removed the 1990’s shower door and hung a pretty white shower curtain with brass hooks over a brass curtain rod.
I ordered two of these extra long shower curtains so that I could give them a full pleated look. Since this shower will probably never get used, the curtains are a pretty way to dress it up without a lot of expense.
I wanted to update all of the old nickel fixtures with brass for a warmer tone, and it was such a simple update.
We replaced the toilet handle, the cabinet hardware, toilet paper roll, and the sink faucet and drain.
Since this bath will be used as a powder room, I also removed three old towel bars from the walls, and bought a stand alone towel bar for guest hand towels.
I found some very pretty hand towels on Amazon that were the perfect pattern and color!
A couple of other additions is the small rug in gorgeous complimenting colors, and the cut glass soap dispenser.
The chair rail, wall below, and moulding were all painted in Sherwin Williams Snowbound. I also repainted the original sink cabinet in Snowbound because it was originally painted in a cream colored paint that leaned toward yellow.
I’m also painting all of the interior doors in a warm gray, Intellectural Gray by Sherwin Williams, and I added a gold decal “Le Bain” (The Bath) to the bathroom door for a bit of whimsy!
So there you have it! Our small bath refresh is finally completed without any major work or expense!
Cheers, Cindy

The decor item that took it to the next level is that gorgeous door stop. Cute, cute, cute
I love the colors, and the door with “Le Bain” is just so fabulous!! You certainly make everything look so easy! I know your guests will enjoy your beautiful style!!
Very pretty and I can see that RubyLou approves as well.
Your new bathroom is stunning!! I love everything you chose. When I went to look for the wallpaper custom color instead of Faun and the eggshell color it says Fauna. Is that the shade you chose??
Deborah, yes the color is Fauna!
Thanks Cindy. The former owner had done some sort of faux finish with texture added to the wall. I’ve tried to find a handyman that can remove this without charging me a fortune. The ease of the wallpaper going up is what attracted me to the thought of using it afterwards! My bathroom now has nothing going for it but beautiful crown molding and hardwood floors . It’s small, cramped and frankly outdated and ugly. I love the idea of chair rail and picture molding underneath to dress it up! Thanks for sharing your great ideas!!!
It’s absolutely beautiful. Really like the wallpaper choice and all the brass. I understand the “slower” part of your story. Miss my young self.
Thank you for sharing and say “hi” to RubyLou” from Sophie, Sassy and Buddy.
The bathroom looks beautiful Cindy! I love the new hardware and the mirror, they add so much elegance to the room. Replacing the shower doors with the curtain is a huge improvement as well. Thank you for sharing your project with us.
It’s lovely! And I can see Miss Ruby Lou approves!
Elegant and beautifully done, Cindy! Love that mirror and great idea to replace the shower doors with double shower curtains. It really elevates the room.
Everything is beautiful, Cindy! Looks so much better without those shower doors, and your wallpaper is gorgeous.
It looks beautiful! Love it all
What a beautiful transformation!
It’s beautiful! We’re putting new tile flooring in our master bath room and shower floor. Hoping to get rid of our shower doors and just do an elegant curtain. Your bath redo was the confirmation that it would look fabulous!
It’s beautiful! I would love for you to come to my home and help with a refresh of my hall bath!!
