The family room is finished!
This is the second room in the ongoing, complete renovation of the 1970’s time warp. The family room update wasn’t nearly as involved as the kitchen, so it went a little quicker, and hubby and I are definitely getting better with our reno skills, so we are making fewer mistakes!
Just as a reminder………here is where we started.
Lovely isn’t it……popcorn ceilings, dated blue carpet and drapes, turquoise wall color, no crown moulding….you get the picture.
Here are some images of the “during”….
And……here is the final reveal!
We scraped the popcorn ceiling and painted it in our “go to” white paint, Sherwin Williams Snowbound.
We added crown moulding, as well as added more moulding at the top of the doorways to give them more height.
We painted the fireplace brick a beautiful gray, and added crown moulding and paint to the fireplace mantel.
Originally, there was only a single built in bookcase to the left of the fireplace. We cut it in half and using the top half, created another cabinet on the bottom. We added a wall of shiplap above it and then hubby built the shelves, creating a built in entertainment center.
Removing the old carpet and installing wide plank, hand scraped oak floors made a huge difference!
All the walls were painted in Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, creating a lighter palette. No more turquoise walls!
There was an inset niche at the back of the room which turned out to be perfect for the china cabinet that we recently made over. You can see more about the cabinet makeover HERE.
Decorating the family room was fun, finally unpacking some things that we haven’t seen since we moved!
And I’m still tweaking it here and there, which is an ongoing process for me. I will live with something for awhile, and then I like to change it up.
We are so glad to have another room behind us on this renovation!
Next up is the dining room! We have already scraped that popcorn ceiling, and have started steaming the avocado flocked wallpaper off of the walls!
I hope you have enjoyed this little tour of the family room!
We are off to do a little pickin’ to find some pretties for the shop! Wish me luck!
