We have had so many questions about the rug that is in our den so I thought I would share the information about it here. The rug is a braided jute rug from Ballard Designs.
Ballard Designs is a catalog and online retail company that sells European inspired home furnishings. They have beautiful home decor and inspirational photos that help with styling your own home. I discovered Ballard Designs about 20 years ago and have bought quite a few things from them over the years. I’ve never been disappointed with any of my purchases and their customer service is top notch.
I purchased this natural braided jute rug about four years ago and I love it! It’s very soft under bare feet and has been very durable. Our furnishings get used, we aren’t particularly careful, and we have indoor pets. This rug has held up very well and doesn’t show wear. It vacuums well and I have even spot cleaned it with a wet, soapy wash cloth when Lulu’s {the schnauzer} dinner didn’t agree with her………sorry…..just keepin’ it real!
The only negative that I would have to share is that it does “shed”, for lack of a better word, especially in the beginning. More so from the fringe. When it was new I vacuumed it a lot. Four years later, it is much better. And when I do my normal vacuuming now, I just make sure to get underneath the fringed ends. That being said, if this rug tore up tomorrow for some reason, I would immediately buy another one!
The rug comes in three colors and six sizes. It’s a bit dressier than traditional jute rugs and it’s extra thick, making it surprisingly soft.
I hope this has helped answer all of your questions! By the way, Ballard Designs is running a 15% off sale on all their rugs right now! And on another note, this is not a sponsored post, I am not being paid by Ballard Designs {they have no clue who I am!}, and this opinion is strictly my own!
We are returning from an extended picking trip in the South today, I will be so glad to sleep in my own bed tonight! We will have some new pretties going into the shop next week!
Blessings, Cindy
Does the rug show “wear”? I have a similar one from Home Decorator’s and although I love it, there is a visable “path” due to the traffic pattern. The path looks flatter than the rest of the rug if that makes sense. Your room is beautiful!!
Susan, I haven’t really noticed any areas worn down due to traffic. This particular jute is a very heavy, thick jute, so that may possibly be the reason.
I am so happy to see the round table I painted has gone to such a great home! Your home is beautiful!! I used Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint on that one. Thank you for sharing the pic with us.
Where oh where did you find the slipcovers? It looks to be exactly what I need!
Hi Nancy! The sofas and slipcovers came from IKEA!
Just curious what paint color your walls are ? I love the color!
Hi Julie! The wall color is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray! It’s a wonderful soft gray! We are using it throughout the whole house!
about your rug ,yours has much thicker ,bushy fringe than the ones on the Ballard site. How come? compare their pic. with yours. Deborah
Hi Deborah! Mine has been vacuumed so many times, including the fringe, that the fringe just looks “bushier” in my photos!
Thank you for taking the time to answer, so nice of you. I love your style, I look at your pictures and observe every detail intently. Just amazing how you have transformed the den and kitchen . I am in awe, and eagerly looking forward to your other rooms renovations. So happy I found your blog. You really chose the right color and size dresser( blue) for your kitchen. Very beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for showing the dresser , the before ,it really makes the after all the more amazing .Deborah
I bought a jute rug from pottery barn a few years ago and have almost never heard the end of it from my husband about the shedding. I love them so and love yours even more than mine…afraid he won’t like it, though… Just wish I could find another natural and neutral solution. Thanks for sharing in case I decide to be daring and buy another shedder.
There is a spray to stop fraying why not try some on your rug ?? I do not have the brand name check Hobby Lobby or Fabric stores
Cindy, I have a similar rug from Pottery barn but I love yours with the fringe.
xx,
Sherry
I love this rug and have been wanting to get one! I was worried that it would be uncomfortable, as I spend a lot of time on the flood with my kiddo. Thank you for the information! Your home is just gorgeous!
