It’s finally finished, the transformation of the master bedroom!
The master bedroom is finished! Three months later than we expected, but I’ve learned that when renovating, anything and everything will happen.
There will be delays, and rarely does anything go the way you think it’s going to!
But finally, at last, another room is marked off the list!
Before I show the reveal, I always like to revisit where we began with the master bedroom.
This is what it looked like when we bought our home.
It was a large bedroom with lots of wonderful windows and closet space.
But as you can see, it was still living in 1972, with wall to wall pink shag carpet, pink silk drapes, floor to ceiling, metallic foil, rose wallpaper, and of course the popcorn ceiling.
I’m sure those drapes were custom made and very expensive in 1972.
Even 40 years later, they look expensive, just not my style.
Surrounding the room was very nice chair railing and moulding, though it got a little lost with everything else going on.
Now that I’ve shocked your senses a little bit, I’ll show you the newly renovated master bedroom!
The room is so much lighter with no more heaviness in the room. Now, it’s bright and comfortable.
The first thing we did was remove the old carpeting, which was an improvement all by itself.
Then we removed the drapes and old cornice boards.
In this room, we planked over the top of the popcorn ceiling, and it’s finished in a white pickling stain to give it a very light, whitewashed look.
I absolutely love the way it turned out. Every morning when I open my eyes, I see that ceiling, and I always think to myself how gorgeous it is.
To see how we planked over the popcorn ceiling, click here.
We attempted to remove the old wallpaper, but as usual, it would not come off of the walls without taking the sheet rock with it.
This seems to be a repeat performance in every room we renovate.
We planked the walls in the dining room when the wallpaper wouldn’t come off, but with the master bedroom, we decided to paint over the wallpaper above the chair rail.
Below the chair rail, we added tongue and groove wood.
All of the wood, chair rail, baseboards, crown moulding and trim got painted, and we laid new wood floors.
We added more trim and moulding to the tops of all the doors, giving the appearance of taller doors.
We’re trying to do this in all of the rooms as we remodel them.
Probably one of the best things we did in this room, was add the two built in cabinets, one on each side of the window seat.
I love a built in cabinet and this bedroom is so large that it handles the addition of the floor to ceiling cabinets perfectly.
We enjoy having a tv in the bedroom, but I like to have it hidden away when we’re not watching it, so these cabinets were the perfect solution.
Hubby is getting pretty good at executing my ideas.
All I have to do is draw him a sketch of what I want and he builds it.
This time, he didn’t even roll his eyes when I started drawing! Who says old dogs can’t learn new tricks?!?
The base cabinets are off the shelf, stock sink cabinets from the big box home improvement stores.
Hubby built the cabinet above the base, as well as the doors, using salvaged wood.
We added wood appliqués to the doors and feet underneath the front, to give it more of a furniture appearance, and filled the openings in the doors with my “go to” metal grill, replacement bbq grate!
Replacement bbq grates come in sheets and we painted them with oil rubbed bronze paint, then lightly dry brushed gray chalk paint over the top.
The outside of the cabinets are painted in layers of chalk paint, starting with French Linen, then dry brushing Paris Gray over the top.
I clear waxed them and added dark wax into the grooves and all the details.
The inside is painted in a coat of Greek Blue, then a layer of Provence.
I’m still tweaking the inside, and will need to add a few more details.
I love old antique books, especially french books, but I find that I don’t have enough!
I will have to start hunting for them again.
Our king size cane bed was given a coat of chalk paint in Old White.
It was originally painted black when we purchased it 10 years ago.
I never liked the black and always planned on painting it, but never seemed to get around to it.
The remodel of the bedroom pushed me to go ahead and get it done.
The two French cane chairs originally belonged to Ms. Irene, who was the original and only owner of our home.
The family was kind enough to leave a few pieces with the house when we purchased it, and I love these chairs.
I didn’t do anything to them other than make a linen slipcover for them in a pretty duck egg blue, cover the armrests, and add nail head trim.
I actually pulled my old sewing machine out of storage to make the slipcovers.
It was my first attempt at making slipcovers, and now I remember why I hate sewing.
It’s so much easier to just use fabric glue!
I wonder how many bottles it would take to make ruffles.
The old plaster lamps got some new burlap shades and I love the texture they add.
This lamp belonged to my precious mother in law, Evelyn, and she always called it, “The Three Graces”.
After the lamp was passed on to me, I searched for years, trying to find a mate, but never could find one, and I finally gave up.
Five years ago, hubby and I were in a flea market in Alabama, and I turned a corner and there it was, the exact lamp.
Needless to say, it came home with me. I haven’t seen another one since.
This wonderful little French settee was found an estate sale, and it has sat in a storage room since we moved in.
I knew it would go in the master bedroom, whenever it was completed.
It looks wonderful sitting under the curved bank of windows.
I have to talk about our chandelier. You will never believe where it came from. Build.com.
The entire time that this room was under renovation, I searched and searched for just the right chandelier.
Because the room is large {over 300 sq. ft.} the chandy needed to be large as well, and it needed to be in my frugal budget. I couldn’t find anything that worked, and I was getting really frustrated, and just a little bit nervous, that this room was going to be finished, but have no chandy!
Little did I know what was about to happen. I entered a sweepstakes that Build.com was having, called the “I Love it Moment” sweepstakes.
It was all about experiencing a “love it moment in your home”.
I entered our kitchen renovation as my “love it moment”. And I won!!
I had no idea that they sell lighting, lots of gorgeous lighting, including beautiful chandeliers!
I was able to choose this beautiful French chandelier, along with some other things for upcoming renos, for our bedroom, and it is just perfect. I absolutely love it.
It was fun bringing in some of my old vintage pieces and accessories such as the old gilded mirrors, and a cherub frame that I’ve been hoarding until I could figure out what I wanted to do with it.
It ended up being the perfect way to frame my Santos angel.
Several months ago I found this huge gesso frame at a really good price, and I couldn’t walk away from it, so we hauled it home.
I ended up covering the backing with burlap and then mounted this wonderful 19th c. French church processional banner inside of it.
There’s many more details that you can see in the pictures.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing the reveal of the master bedroom after all of these months.
I’m going to try and do a source list at the end, but if I miss something, or you have a question, please leave a comment and ask.
I will try to answer all of your questions!
I still have a little bit of tweaking to do.
I want to make a cushion for the window seat, and maybe move the French chairs and add a bench at the foot of the bed.
I also need to replace the old 1970’s ceiling lights in the hallway.
We’ll have to see how it evolves over the next few months!
If you love our master bedroom renovation, be sure and pin it to your Pinterest boards.

I’m new to your blog and love it! Love the chandelier and I may have missed it somewhere, but what is your ceiling height?
The ceiling in the dining room is 12′.
I wish I could hire you!!! LOVE EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!
sure was a beautiful house when you finished with it
Where did you get your beautiful ceiling medallion? Thank you!
Hi Carly! It came from Lowe’s, and then I gilded it!
Hi!
Inspirational transformations! I think I love the ceiling best. Do you have a tutorial on the moulding build up extension on the doors? I’ve been researching doing the same thing- not wanting to cut off the top moulding pice to do it. You’re are very similar to mine so I think it will work! The pics blur when I enlarge them so I would love to know each moulding piece/size you used. Thanks!
Renée.
Hi Renee! Here’s the link to the blog post about the door mouldings: https://wp.me/p5Xug9-1jP
Hi again! Did you paint the nightstands? Wondering about color.
Yes, I painted the nightstands in Annie Sloan French Linen!
Love the redo of your bedroom!!! Where did you get your bed frame? I simply love it!!
We purchased it many years ago at a furniture store that was closing.
Beautiful room and fabulous web site! I’m wanting to recover a chair in a duck egg blue fabric like what you used here. Could you please recommend a good one? Thank you!
Hi Ann! The fabric used in this post was from Hobby Lobby!
Awsome!
I love your choice of chandelier. Build has this in three different color. Did you use French Umber or the Vintage Copper? its hard to tell by the photos.
Hi Ramona! The chandelier is in the French Umber!
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Your homes are lovely
Wow! Beyond words! Love everything!! Can you tell me how you did the planks in master bedroom. Paint and stain?
Yes, please see the post “How to Plank a Popcorn Ceiling” for all the details of the ceiling!
i do like what you did! Nice job on the ceilings…oh, my aching neck…i need to do mine as well…
Hello! This room,is beautiful! I’d like to try using the metal grates in some cabinets. The link below is not working for me. Do you think they still have what you used, do you have a link. Your room is stunning.
Hi Jennifer! Here is a link that works: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-12-in-x-24-in-Cold-Rolled-Steel-Expanded/3051815
Everything is absolutely beautiful. Do you know the name of the chandelier? Build.com has over 300 pages of chandeliers.
Hi CeCe! Here’s the link to the chandelier:https://www.build.com/quorum-international-6006-6/s272174?uid=2220348
I absolutely love this transformation. Could you please tell me how high the ceilings were in this room? Thank you.
Hi Carolyn! The ceilings in the bedroom were 8′.
Cindy,
I just came across your blog and I love it. You have the best color palate! I love the muted tones. I have ask, first did you really make the drapes from drop cloth (Home Depot/Maison Dupot? And did you make those Roman Shades? Just Beautiful.
Yes! I made the drapes from drop cloths (I love them!), and I made the Roman Shades as well!
I cannot believe you did the drapes from Drop Cloths! LOL. Did you sew or use fabric tape. And I guess you just did faux pinch pleat look with the clips and rings on the rod?
Hi Templa! I used fabric tape to create a hem. Yes, the pleats are faux!
Hello … in your master bedroom makeover you have two beautiful side tables. Were those a purchase or vintage pieces?
They are vintage, purchased from an estate sale!
Your drapes are drop cloths from Home Depot? What color, brand, and length? You just clipped them at the top to hang?
Hi Leigh! Home Depot no longer carries the drop cloths that I’ve used. Lately, I’ve been using drop cloths from Amazon that are 100% cotton, and they work perfectly. Yes, I would hand pleat a small section and then clip. Here’s the link:https://amzn.to/328xAbM
THANK YOU!
Hi Cindy,
Could you please share what the name of the flooring is you used in your bedroom and throughout the house. I love the color.
Thank you!
Hi Debbie! Here is the link to the flooring that we used in the bedroom: https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-Marvino-Hickory-6-14-in-W-x-3-93-ft-L-Handscraped-Wood-Plank-Laminate-Flooring/1000404359
Looks great! How did you paint over the wallpaper and how is it holding up.
Hi Rhonda! To paint over wallpaper, you will need to spackle over all of the seams and any torn areas of the wallpaper, then sand smooth. Then paint over all of the wallpaper with oil based primer. Once the primer is dry, you can paint the walls in the color of your choice using latex paint. It’s very easy. The walls are holding up perfectly, and one would never know that there is wallpaper under the paint! I hope that helps!
I have been studying your gorgeous aesthetic, trying to incorporate some of your style with a bit less formal farmhouse look. You stated your ceiling heights at 8 feet but they look more like a 9 foot ceiling. I’m just trying to determine drapery heights. also, I have (what I think) is a similar sized master bedroom. Could you please give the dimensions of your room not including the entrance passageway?
Thank you so much for all your information! It is so helpful to those of us that are not so confident making decorating decisions.
Ramona, the master bedroom is approximately 20′ x 20′.
I love it all Great job!
Thanks, Julia!
I love everything about your entire home! In regards to the your master bedroom’s bed skirt, you graciously told us where you purchased it but not the color. I see from their website that it comes in two colors. In trying to determine which color you purchased from your photos it looks like the natural color but in another angle it looks like the ivory. It is so hard to purchase items on the internet without actually having them in hand to see what works the best. Would you mind disclosing which color you used?
I would also love to be added to your newsletter if you don’t mind.
Hi Ramona! The color of our bedskirt is Natural! We have added your to our newsletter! Thank you so much, and Welcome!
Hi just wondering where u purchased the beautiful crown angel? Love how your bedroom was transformed. Beautiful
Hi Marlene! The angel came from Ballard Designs several years ago!
Hi Cindy where is your bed from. Love everything about this. Can’t wait to go check out other blog posts of yours . Thank you!!
Thank you, Carla! The bed came from a local furniture store that went out of business many years ago. I’m not sure what brand it it is.
What were your wall color choices (name and brand)? My home flooded in the Great Flood of 2016, and I am still working on it. I am priming right now, and we will be ready to paint very soon.
Hi Laura! The color on our walls is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. All of the woodwork and trim is painted in Sherwin Williams Snowbound. The interior doors are painted in Sherwin Williams Pussywillow. I hope this helps!
I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled across your blog today. I love your style! My mom has those lamps in her bedroom! I don’t remember where she found them. Hers are more of an antique white or cream color, which blends well in her room. But she taught me when I was young, that most lamp bases can be painted! I have one of those 70’s or 80’s bean pot style lamps I have moved around for ages…I don’t even remember the original color!
Thanks for commenting,Kelly!
I have been admiring this room for some time and just love your style. Quick question, did you do a tutorial on how you made your Roman shades. I have been toying with this ideal and really need a good step by step tutorial on how you did them. Also I read your recent tutorial on how you finished a chair with a drop cloth then painted the stripes and added your initials, did you scotch guard the material or use anything to protect the cloth from dirt or spills? Thank you in advance and again love your blog!
Hi Tamela! Unfortunately I haven’t done a tutorial on how I made the roman shades. However, if you google it, there are a ton of tutorials out there showing you how. They are made with mini blinds. I didn’t scotch guard the drop cloth on the chair but that’s is a great idea, especially if it’s a chair that will be used often. Thanks for following along!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
You are extremely talented and resourceful! I love love love this room! It is stunning. I want to ask the process you used to paint the side tables. This is my favorite room of all that I have ever seen. I love French and would like to take my current pieces and paint them to look a bit more antiqued. Like you ,whenever I find a good French antique piece I buy it as I know I will use it somewhere. I love your blog!!!
Thank you Lisa! Here is a link to a hutch that I painted in a similar process as our side tables. Hopefully that will help! Thank you so much for following! https://wp.me/p5Xug9-kc
Quick question, I LOVE the floor. Could you please let me know the stain manufacturer and color?
Thank you!! Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Your new follower-
Angela
Hi Angela! The floors were already stained when we installed them, but I believe it is a dark oak stain.
You did a fabulous job! It’s a dreamy bedroom now!
Beautiful renovation!! What kind of flooring is in the bedroom?
Wow is all I can say. I am so inspired, your taste just nails what is in my head. That matelasse spread – – so cool, I went to Counrty Door website, I didn’t see it, but to be honest there were gobs of bedspreads and not a sort feature. I doubt you can remember, but can you give any more details about it????? You have exquisite taste. Bravo!!!
Thank you Nancy! I just checked the Country Door website and it looks like the quilt I have is no longer available. Here is something similar: http://www.countrydoor.com/Bed-and-Bath/Bedding/Quilts-Comforters-and-Bedspreads/laurel-oversized-quilt-and-sham.pro?omSource=SLI&
You did a beautiful job! I am redoing my bedroom right now with the same Toile fabric. I love how you made the curtains from drop cloths, I just may use that idea!
Thank you Melinda!
Can u tell me which brand and size drop cloths u used for curtains? I purchase some but they had several seams
Hi Christy! There are definitely different grades of drop cloths. The ones that I’ve had the most luck with is the Everbilt brand from Home Depot, in the 10 oz weight. Hope that helps!
I love the painted cane bed……I want one so bad, but can’t find one for less than $3,000! The whole room is lovely; great job!
Cindy! I am not one to leave comments, but your blog made me do it. I am just starting the blog world myself. I am THOROUGHLY enjoying reading through each rooms renovation! It is refreshing to hear that you have to be budget minded but make it look like a million bucks! The grill grate idea is tucked away now for future use! Thank you for taking the time to share. Hmmm. I think I will read about the kitchen next. Did you go to Brimfield last week?!
Hi Michelle! Welcome! Haven’t made it to Brimfield yet….but I hope to do so one day! Thanks so much for commenting!
Stunning, I keep going back to the photos
I could not find the Buffalo check duvet at IKEA but Ballard has that check, looks identical, could it be Ballard Design ?
Looking forward to more blog
Thank you Anne! The duvet and shams definitely came from IKEA! Here’s the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60219977/
Where did you find your bedside tables? Love them!
Thank you Ashley! We found the tables at an estate sale!
Hi, Cindy!
I found your blog through Dixie Delights Spring share post. I have poured over this blog entry (& your entire blog) with my mouth hanging wide open, everything is absolutely beautiful (all of the renovations you guys have done are amazing)!!
I cannot believe those “drapes” are drop cloths from Home Depot! I have used those myself as drapes when we first moved in to our home & eventually changed them out and cut them up to recover the seats on my kitchen chairs. I was wondering HOW ON EARTH did you get them to look so tailored!?! Are they hemmed special? And the PLEATS at the top…I had to look hard at first because I thought the fabric was white & ivory stripes. For the love, HOW did you get that drop cloth to stay pressed like that!?!
You guys are truly gifted, I’m calling HGTV…you need your own show! 😉
Hi Mandy! Thank you so much for all of your sweet words! I love using drop cloths for drapes, they are neutral and have a “linen” look to them! Here’s my secret to getting that tailored look: I wash the drop cloths a couple of times using bleach to soften and lighten them. I put a three inch hem in the top and bottom {I hem them using stitch witchery iron on tape…I hate sewing!}. When I hem the bottom, I place three or four small metal washers in the hem for a little added weight. Then I iron each one, and literally iron the pleats into the top, using starch and a hot iron. Once hung on the alligator clips, the starched pleats remain in place! New sewing required! And there you have it! With the exception of the family room, I’ve used drop cloths in every other room! Happy Easter, Mandy!
Cindy
I have fallen in love with the elegant chandelier!
Best Wishes
Nancy
Cindy
I surely agree with all of the comments. A beautiful transformation!! The light streaming through the windows the warm colors say a room filled with “Soft Love” Thank you for sharing this reveal and your wonderful ideas to inspire all of us who LOVE your blog
Best Wishes
Nancy
I adore your bedroom chandelier! Do you have the style number or maker? I’ve been scrolling through Build.com and can’t find it.
Thank you Jennifer! I love the chandelier in the master bedroom! Here’s the direct link to the chandy: http://www.build.com/quorum-international-6006-6-chandelier/s272174
I absolutely adore your bedroom, especially the chandelier. Would you mind telling me what finish you chose on the chandelier?
Hi Louise! Finish that we chose for the chandelier is French Umber. Thank you so much for asking!
May I please come stay for a while? Beauty abounds in everything you do!
Thank you so much Mary!
Do you have a tutorial for staining the ceiling? We just finished with the planks and want to pickle them but not sure if we should use conditioner etc. Thanks:)
Chelsea, we used the Minwax white pickling stain from Lowe’s. Very easy to apply straight to the planks, brush on, wipe off.
Dear Cindy, I am new to reading blogs and by chance came upon yours, starting with your kitchen redo, which is amazing. I so appreciate everything you do. Would you be so kind as to share the name or model # of your master bedroom chandelier? I went to Build.com but could not find anything quite like it. Looking forward to whatever you do next. Michele
Thank you so much Michele! Here is the link to the chandelier that we installed in the master bedroom:http://www.build.com/quorum-international-6006-6-chandelier/s272174
Simply a gorgeous, dream bedroom! Beautifully done!
Thank you so much Toni!
Hi Cindy,
I just started following your blog and I love your home. You really have an eye for styling. Your bedroom makeover is magazine worthy.
The staircase in the foyer is. to. die. for. Hope you transform that space next 🙂
Noelle
Thank you so much Noelle! Yes, I think the foyer is going to be next!
I am behind on my reading but I had to comment anyway except I don’t know what to say…I love it all. Beautiful, must just make you smile.
Thank you so much Wendy!
This room is beyond gorgeous! Want to come over and give me some ideas?
Absolutely gorgeous! I love your vision and your style!
Thank you Anne!
Beautiful, Cindy! What did you use for the wood panels at chair rail height? As always, you give the BEST detailed information … Sooooooo helpful!!!
Thank you so much Kim! We used the same tongue and groove planks that were used on the ceiling. Here’s the link to the blog post that shows the exact planking we used: https://edithandevelynvintage.com/2015/05/04/how-to-plank-a-popcorn-ceiling/
Hey Cindy! Once again ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL TRANSFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!! I love it to pieces! Did you paint the furniture pieces beside your bed? Just curious what color you used. Your bedroom is truly beautiful. My husband and I are in the process of redoing a home built around 1910 and yours is such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey along with us. You have given me so many great ideas plus lovely pieces from your shop that will help give this new home that wonderful french look that is so appealing. You and your husband truly have an incredible eye for detail! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Adele
Thank you so much Adele! I did paint the pieces beside the bed. Used Annie Sloan chalk paint, first coat was French Linen, then I dry brushed Paris Gray over the top. Clear and dark wax!
This room makeover is spectacular. What an incredible transformation. I love all the French and rustic details. The bright colors make it cozy and relaxing.
You did an amazing job. Hope my small master bedroom makeover will be as beautiful.
Thank you for the inspiration.

Thank you so much Janet, that means so much to me!
your amazing renovations need to be in book form, Cindy. so beautiful!
Thank you so much Debra! That means so much to me!
Oh my goodness, it is gorgeous!! What a transformation! I love the lamps, especially the one that belonged to your mother in law, Evelyn. (My daughter is named after my great grandmother Evelyn, but pronounced with a long E) I love the ceiling, love the chandy too, and the whole room is just gorgeous. You much love being there!
Thank you so much Anita!
Oh Cindy how have I missed your blog. OMG it is gorgeous. This room is gorgeous. I am a new follower. So beautiful here.
Kris
Thank you so much Kris!! Thanks for following along!
I am almost at a loss for words. This is EXQUISITE!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my first visit to your blog: I found you through Shirley. I am so happy she shared this and I cam over. I will be your newest follower now. EVERY detail is gorgeous. Love the ceiling, LOVE the framed santos doll, love the candlesticks. OMGoodnees it is all magnificent! BRAVO!!!!!!
Oh my, thank you so much Pinky! Your compliments are so much appreciated! Thanks for following along!
The long wait for the revealing of the bedroom was worth it! You and your husband out did yourself. I can identify with the long hours and hard work that goes into remodeling. I have bought older houses (1920s-1940s), gutted them and brought them back to life updated. The rewards of stepping back and looking at what you accomplished with the skills that were given to you is truly a blessing. I love the framed Santos. It gave me an idea to display one that I have. I would start on the pink bathroom next. Is it the master bath?
Thank you so much Kathy! No, the pink bathroom isn’t the master. There is actually four bathrooms in this home….all different colors, pink, turquoise, blue, and green! The pink bathroom is probably the worst!
You transformations is break taking. Your vision is inspiring.
Thank you so much Kerry!
Absolutely beautiful! You are such an inspiration to me.
That’s so sweet, thank you so much Rebecca!
It’s beautiful! I would do the foyer next. It sets the tone of who lives there and what they enjoy!
Thank you Donna! Yes, I think the foyer may be the next project!
So enjoying your beautiful rooms. Am tackling a smallish under used guest room sans Designer ( anxiety inducing ). Making it a small study I hope will be a working office. Thank you for demonstrating the beauty of painted furniture, a unified palette, the power of the perfectly placed over-sized object, and the unerring eye, yours. I am going to try to get my designer/friend out of retirement !
Thank you Elaine! I’m sure your guest room will turn out fabulous!
STUNNING!!!
Thank you so much Michelle!
Gorgeous, as usual! I’d love for you to pin more of the bedroom pictures like you did with the kitchen and dining room.
Thank you Jessica! Please, feel free to pin any other photos to your boards that you would like!
Cindy, OMG I can’t stop looking at those photos!!! Such a beautiful transformation!!
I love so much of what you and your husband have done. You have inspired me so much!!!! I have copied several of your projects. the recent being, just completed one dining chair with the stenciling! 13 hours on one…..only 5 more to go!!!!! My husband is so proud of me and is even helping me out. Thank you for your suggestions on stenciling. It’s so much fun! The hardest part is taking all those staples out!! I too the foyer should be next.
Awesome Linda! I just know your chairs are going to be beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Again just absolutely beautiful! I wanted to ask you if you bleach your drop clothes before making your drapes, I love the look of them in both this room and the dining room. Thank you for giving such inspiration!
Thank you Candy! When I wash the drop cloths, I do add bleach, just to bleach the out a little bit.
Cindy, you and your husband is very, very talented and blessed!!!! I have followed along on this remodel and would not change a thing. I love French décor. I also love the way you framed your santo…..I collect Santo’s and Icon’s. Your home deserves to be in a French Magazine and you need to have decorating books to buy. It is So exciting to open your blog. Waiting for the next GORGEOUS transformation!!!!
Awww…thank you so much Nancy! Your compliments mean so much to me. Thank you for following along!
OMG you & your husband are incredibly talented and I vote Foyer!
Thank you Lisa!
Hello HGTV you lookin at this! This is AWESOME!
Lol, Vicki, thank you!!
Cindy, Wow! What a stunning transformation. Ya’ll did a beautiful job. The bedroom is absolutely gorgeous. I vote for the Foyer for your next project.
Thank you Christine! So far, the foyer is leading!
Cindy I absolutely adore the framed Santos Angel!!!:) I love huge ornate pieces and cherubs!!! I also vote for the Foyer for your next project.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Am sitting in a hideous remodeling project – 80% of the house has been torn up due to damage and neglect. We are living like squatters. The house will be beautiful when it’s done, but we are doing the work ourselves and it takes time. Just needed to see something beautiful today. Appreciate you sharing your inspiring photos, sources, etc. It helps to see someone with similar circumstances that lived to tell the tale 🙂 Thank you again.
Oh, Kim, I feel your pain! Hang in there, it will be worth it in the end. It’s just very time consuming and a lot of the time, frustrating!
Hello Cindy, Your home is absolutely stunning! Both you and your husband are extremely gifted! I would love to have an ounce of your talent. I am in the early stages of adding French influences to my small home (on a tight budget too) and I am so inspired by all your creative choices. I notice you have used drop cloths as drapes in some of your rooms. Can you tell me if you do anything to “prep” them before hanging? Thank you for any ideas. My vote is for the foyer. I can only imagine how breathtaking it will be after your transformation.
Thank you so much Mary! Yes, I have used drop cloths a lot as drapes, and they look wonderful! I always buy the heavier drop cloth {10 oz from Home Depot}, wash, dry, and iron. I hemmed the top and bottom {with fabric glue, but you could definitely sew. I just hate sewing!}, and at the bottom, I added metal washers inside the hem about every 12″ for added weight at the bottom so they would drape nicely. I then ironed pleats into the top of the drop cloth and then hang. The ironed pleats at the top will make the rest of the cloth drape perfectly!
Thank you for all the helpful information Cindy!
what a reveal, love the room. I definitely think the bathroom next! xxx
Oh this is an amazing and beautiful job Cindy! I am in love with all the changes you made. Bravo!!!
Thank you so much Amy!
I’m loving that Bible verse too. It spoke to my heart.
Thank you Dee! It’s a daily reminder for me!
I am a faithful follower and have loved every inch of your remodel! My question involves the new ceiling in your bedroom. I reread your installation of your new ceiling but I was unsure how the boards looked where they met the existing crown molding. It’s look as though you kept the molding up when you added the boards on the ceiling. Did you put another piece of crown molding over the new seams or just caulk? Thanks much!
Hi Martha! In the master bedroom, there was already crown moulding installed. I definitely didn’t want to remove it and then re-install it. So we just ran the edge of the boards right up to the crown, and then caulked. It looks very seamless! Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Oh my … Cindy what a beautiful transformation! Love the IKEA duvet checks with the
the other fabrics .. .such a calming pallet of color.
I would most definitely tackle that pink bathroom next! 🙂
Thank you Patty! The foyer was in the lead……but the pink bathroom is catching up!
Cindy,
Unbelievably, stunningly, French charm!!!! You have been given a gift and are using it to inspire so many. Hubby is a keeper, but if you want to rent his carpentry talents out just LMK:)
I have the French country home–just need you to decorate it with your amazing eye for the French flair.
Question: Do you think linens and neutrals are boring in the living room? My walls are SW mindful grey and I want a calming look for furniture with pops of colorful pillows that can be changed with the seasons. –Your thoughts ?
My vote is to tackle the foyer then the pink bath.
Aww…thank you Jan, that means so much to me! Hubby is definitely a keeper, and it’s way too late to train another one! I love, love, love linens and neutrals in the living room! They are the perfect foundation to add pops of your favorite color, and it’s easy to control how much color, when you’re adding it with pillows and accessories! It makes seasonal decorating so much simpler, and I am really into simple decorating these days!
Oh my goodness, everything is beautiful!!! I do love pink, but there was just a bit too much. I think the bathroom should be next, but whichever room you pick, I’m sure it will be wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing all the product info.
Thank you Yvonne! I love pink as well, maybe just in smaller doses! Thanks for following along!
Cindy,hi your planked kitchen ceiling caught my eye. As they say “the rest is history”I subscribed and now a devoted fan. Do you have a link as to how you pickled the ceiling? Did you and your hubby do the pickling? I have tongue and groove ceilings I n the great room, kitchen and sunroom. These ceiling all run together so I this has to be the same. I had them installed to paint, but now pickling is looking good. I’m really having a hard time deciding. Everybody that sees them says “don’t paint” how did you decide?
I originally thought I wanted to paint the planked ceiling in the kitchen white, but I actually was a little nervous about doing it. I have always loved wood that has been white washed or pickled with the grain still showing through, so I decided that I would pickle the kitchen ceiling, and I absolutely love it. Every person that walks into our kitchen comments on how beautiful the ceiling is. That’s the reason, I went with pickling again in the master bedroom, it give it such a wonderful light look, without eliminating all the wonderful wood grain. And it can always be painted later on. The pickling stain that we used is by Minwax, we bought it at Lowe’s {here’s a link: http://www.lowes.com/pd_618209-24-618604444_0__ }. It’s really easy to use, we just brushed it on a section at a time and immediately wiped any excess off with a rag. And if you have any wood left from the ceiling, you can do a test run on those. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks so much for following along!
Your Bedroom turned out Absolutely Gorgeous!! Seeing the rest of your home I wasn’t surprised!!!! Loved seeing all the Special Touches you Added…. Happy Decorating!!! Can’t wait to see your Next Project!!!
Thank you so much Mary Ellen!
This is absolutely extraordinary! Ohhh my gosh! I could just die over how pretty this room turned out. Every single part of it is to completely die over… These photos will be all over my Pinterest board!
Cindy
Oh my goodness, thank you Cindy! Your compliments mean so much to me!
I am overwhelmed by this beautiful room! I LOVE your decorating style. Fabulous!
Thank you so much Colleen, that means so much to me!
I agree with every comment; speechless…you two are very gifted, the transformation is breathtaking. The room is so serene that you have to feel his present. You are very blessed to have been given such a talent but you make him proud to see that you use that talent to glorify him.
I love the lamps, I own a pendant that has the “Three Graces” . I can not wait to see the next reveal, I am torn between the foyer and the bathroom.
Again, breathtaking!!!
Thank you Daphne, that means so much to me! P.S. So far, I think the foyer is winning!
Cindy
Love it all! Your slip covers turned out really nice for someone who doesn’t enjoy sewing:) Sounds like you have a gem of a hubby like I do.
I’m redoing my main floor – LR, DR, Kitchen and Foyer. At the point to think about window treatments. I noticed your roman shades and I have considered that along with side panels of some sort. We will have dark wood floors throughout so I’m a bit concerned about the full south sun exposure. I have two wide joined sliding windows on the LR side (one big room) and a patio door off my DR. About 9 ft apart. The kitchen has a nice window with a half round above it. Problem with that one I face the side of a house. Prior to the remodel I had a lace panel on that window just for enough light but mask the visual of seeing the neighbors house while doing dishes. Any thoughts?
Thank you so much June! I love the roman shades that we added to the windows in the bedroom. The side panels are more for look than anything else. And for privacy, we actually mounted roller shades behind the roman shades. The romans stay stationary and at night we just pull the roller shades down. During the day, the roller shades are rolled up, staying hidden behind the roman shades. Originally, were just pulling the roman shades up and down with the string pulls, but hubby wasn’t crazy about dealing with the strings and getting them up correctly, so the solution was mounting the roller shades behind the romans, not seen until pulled down. Hope that makes sense! I have the same issue in our kitchen, the window over the sink faces the neighbors. I’ve had a short valance panel on the those windows, but the roman shade idea worked so well in the bedroom, I’m going to make some for the kitchen windows as well. On our large sliding patio doors, I mounted a long rod above the frame, and hung panels. They are kept pulled back during the day, but at night, we can close off those big windows by sliding the panels closed.
Great suggestions. Thanks.
Oh Cindy love love love it all!! Gorgeous transformation! I have the same duvet from Ikea think I’ll be pulling it out again:-)
Thank you so much Martina!
You inspire me…..elegant, feminine, I love all of your projects and look forward to more.
Thank you so much Pat! That means so much to me!
Total stunner of a transformation-so in love!
Thank you Darrielle!
Cindy, The transformation is spectacular! I love what you and your husband have done with each room, but it is so nice to make your bedroom a calm, peaceful sanctuary. I love all things French and your attention to detail is remarkable. I have a lot of religious art in my home and every time I pass from room to room, I am reminded of His love and filled with gratitude, Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with all of us. Dawn P.S. I vote for the foyer next too.
Thank you so much Dawn! Yes, the religious are are daily reminders of WHAT and WHO are important! Blessings to you!
You and hubby are becoming pros at this! You just keep getting better and better. I’m loving the chandy story…So glad you found the perfect one, and of course your kitchen story won the contest! Congrats and I can’t wait to see what other things you got from Build.com. I LOVE the way you frame the three dimensional pieces with burlap behind them in the big gorgeous frames.
You and hubby need to take a break and come to the estate sale next weekend!
Thank you Judy! I would looovvveee to come to the estate sale this weekend….chances are we won’t be able to, but who knows, I’m getting a lot of “divine intervention” lately!
Too much going on here.
So sorry you don’t like it Nancy.
So very beautiful. You inspire me! I look forward to your next project. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Cindy!
As always, the transformation is amazing! Love it! Oh I think the pink bathroom should be next…got to “love” outdated decor but I think that pink would hurt my eyeballs every time I saw it! Lol.
Thank you Cecilia! That is a pretty intense shade of pink….and there’s so much of it!
I love it! Just beautiful! I believe God will inspire your next project as He loves beauty as well. Continue to be faithful. Thanks for sharing! xoxo
Thank you so much Karen!
Yeah! I was so excited when I received this post in my in-box! I’ve been waiting (along with many of your readers) for the final reveal of your master bedroom. Wow! Simply amazing! I love every detail. I’m drooling over all the gorgeous photos! I hope to see your home on the cover of a French decorating magazine very soon. Maybe you’ll have a book in your future? I really love the way you incorporate all the spiritual statues in your decor. It looks very European and French. Congratus on winning the stunning chandy too. Well, time to roll up your sleeves and tackle the next project on your list. Hopefully, you and hubby will take some down time to celebrate all your hard work.
Thank you so very much Sandy, your support mean so much to me. Thank for following along on our unexpected journey!
I absolutely love your home. It is beautiful. The transformations are so much more than I expected to see. Gorgeous does not even begin to describe it. You and your husband definitely have a talent beyond words. I loved every detail. Can’t wait to see more.
Aww, thank you Debra! I will pass your words on to hubby, though it might make his head swell just a little bit!
You and your husband do amazing work! Love your home & thanks for blogging about it…I’m inspired! Those details really make a difference & can’t believe you found the matching lamp. Definitely Divine Intervention! Worth the wait! Blessings
Thank you so much! Yes, I believe you are right, definitely Divine Intervention in finding the matching lamp! Thanks for following along!
Absolutely stunning!! I cannot think of any description that would do it justice!
Thank you so much Lorraine!
Cindy, What a Gorgeous bedroom! I love every single detail and the two of you did an amazing job transforming this room….so beautiful.
Thank you so much Sherry!
Oh My! It is absolutely stunning! I love the planked ceiling, the three mirrors above the bed and the built ins.
Thank you Penny!
Foyer, for certain! Guests should enter your lovely home and be wowed by the entrance!
Maria, I’m leaning toward the foyer, as well!
All I have to say is stunnning!! Everything y’all have done is beautiful, what a blessing to have such an eye to put together such beauty. I think the foyer should be next. Oh, by the way where are the candlesticks from? I’ve been searching for tall candlesticks for my dining area.
Thank you so much Letty! I have picked up my candlesticks at various antique markets over the years. They are a little bit hard to come by at a decent price! I just saw some nice reproductions at http://www.countrydoor.com/Shop-by-Room/Jeweltone-Bedroom/set-of-3-baroque-candlesticks.pro?omSource=SLI& they might be of interest to you!
Amazing. I love, love the Bible verse on the page from the old Bible. So sweet. The whole thing is gorgeous. I love the mirrors above the bed. The foyer is pretty as is but I’m sure there are things we can’t see from the pictures. I think you should tackle the pink bathroom. Either way, I can’t wait to see what you chose.
Thank you Katie!
I love the bible verse too.
Thank you Sandy!
Your bedroom looks like something out of a European magazine! So swoon worthy! So inspiring and just unbelievably gorgeous!
Thank you so much Lucy!
*drool* Oh my, dear Cindy … *drool*, the transformation is absolutely amazing! I’ve been looking forward to the great reveal and I knew that it would be spectacular, given your awesome designing flair and your hubby’s impressive carpentry skills, but this goes above and beyond my wildest expectations. Everything you did is just perfect and fits together so harmoniously … it’s like a little slice of heaven. *drool* *drool* and more *drool*. You two should feel such a sense of pride as you walk through the rooms that you’ve renovated so far, they are all stunning!!! I know that it’s not nice to envy but I humbly admit that I do envy your talent and wish that I had just a fraction of it myself *sigh and more drool*. Congratulations to the both of you, your home is breathtakingly beautiful, a true testament to your wonderful talent and impressive creativity (she says as she tries to pick her jaw off of the floor but it’s kinda stuck there and is it any wonder, she asks herself dreamily).
I vote for the foyer as your next project, I’m sure it’s going to be another stunner!
Awww….thank you so much LindyLou, I appreciate your comments so much. I will read your comment to hubby, it will make his chest puff out just a little bit more! {{hugs}}.
LindyLou, I couldn’t have said it better-My feelings to a tea !!
Thank you Kathy!
Oh my word, Cindy. I hardly know what to say. What a simply fabulous, gorgeous, yummy transformation!!!
Thank you so much Suzy!
Oh my goodness Cindy….what a most stunning and exquisite transformation. You have not left out an ounce of incredible details…from the ceiling treatments to the framed antiquities to those amazing built ins. Love, love all of the architectural details and the gorgeous vignettes in the room. How so wonderful that you found the mate to the lamp….divine intervention I say. OK…back to scroll through the pics again!…Congrats on creating a most incredibly gorgeous room!!!…
Aww…thank you so much Shirley! Yes, divine intervention, that’s exactly what I thought when I found the matching lamp!
I had the same Three Graces lamp. When I changed decor some years ago, i took the lamp part off and added a finial. It sat on my hearth and was lovely. I sold it when we downsized.
Oh Cindy!! Once again I am swooning here. This is just beautiful.
We bought this little home ( it was being built) in desperation as ours sold 24 hrs after we put it on the market. It wasn’t be the stop gap as we searched for property and build something… then the market collapsed. So 2 years ago, I decided to stop ‘waiting’ and just luv the home we were in. It’s been slow as our son got married, our DIL had a little girl, then they had a baby who I watch while they work…. but you have inspired me to soldier on!!!
Thanks for being an inspiration with your beautiful room redos.
Hugs, Gee
Thank you so much Gee! I understand about things not working out the way you plan. Where we are right now is certainly surprising us! There’s an old saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”, so very true. I hope I have inspired you to make your little home, your dream home!!
Gorgeous Cindy! You did not disappoint! Love everything about your master bedroom! I think you should do that bathroom next:)
Thank you so much Celia!
Wow Cindy is an understatement! You truly have outdone yourselves once again. I love everything in your space. I think you should tackle the foyer next. I can not wait to see that transformed!
Thank you so much! I think I’m leaning toward the foyer as well!
Hi,
These pictures are wonderful. What a fabulous transformation. We are in the process of planning our new/old house redo and your posts are very helpful. I didn’t see where you sourced the wood floor for the bedroom. I may have missed it but could you please let me know.
Thanks so much,
Heather
Thank you Heather! Our floors are from a small local company, Vermillion Hardwoods.
Thanks!!
What a great reveal to wake up to! Love every detail. How cool that you came across another lamp! Love the framed Santos. May have to steal that idea if I ever have the right pieces. One thing I want and cannot find at a decent price are the carved candlesticks. You have some beauties. My oh my that foyer is huge. I didn’t know you have curved stairs. I know you will make that gorgeous when you get to it.
Thank you Kim! The foyer is pretty large, that staircase is actually what sold me on this house!
Well, what a way to start my morning! Seeing your beautiful space. I love everything about it! Oh how I wish you could come to my house and use your magical touch! I always enjoy your blog!
Thank you Julie!
Cindy,
You and hubby could give Chip and Joanna a run for their money! I love everything you have done and yours is my very favorite blog. The previous owner certainly liked the color pink! Can’t wait to see what you two talented people do next.
Thank you Diane!
Fabulous as always. .simply gorgeous my friend! I think the foyer should be next!
Thank you sweet Marcia! Yes, I’m leaning toward that foyer too!
