A new addition to our home is a fabulous Louis Philippe mirror!
We have a new addition in our home! MY latest find is a gorgeous and large, budget friendly, Louis Philippe mirror!
For years, I’ve had a love for antique French mirrors and my favorites have always been a French Trumeau mirror and the iconic Louis Philippe mirror. Both designs are emblematic of French style, however they can also be quite expensive.
I recently discovered this very large Louis Philippe style mirror and I was very surprised by the price. Right now, it’s on sale for $249.00, which is a great deal!
The mirror is part of the Liz Marie Galvin Cozy Cottage collection and is sold on QVC.
I ordered this mirror and hoped that it would be of good quality. Even though I wasn’t crazy about the raw wood finish, I knew that I could gild it so that it would have the look of a more traditional antique Louis Philippe mirror.
This is what the mirror looked like when it arrived.

After unpacking it, I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality.
The mirror is quite substantial and a nice large size, measuring 59″ tall! It’s made from pine wood so it has a nice weight, weighing over 25 lbs, and it appears to be very well made.
Because I wanted a gilded finish, I decided to paint it with a favorite paint, Modern Masters metallic paint in color Pharaoh’s Gold.
I gave the mirror two coats of this paint, and this is how it looks now!
I hung the mirror over the chest in the foyer.
The ceiling in the foyer is very high and the mirror that I had there before didn’t seem big enough, so I moved it to the master bedroom and replaced it with the Louis Philippe. I think this mirror works so much better!
What is a Louis Philippe mirror?
In case you’re not familiar with this iconic French style mirror, a Louis Philippe is designed to emulate the classic style of the Louis Philippe period, which was a period of French history that lasted from 1830 to 1848.
Louis Philippe was the last king of France, who reigned from 1830 to 1848. He was born on October 6, 1773, in Paris, France, and was a member of the House of Bourbon.
Louis Philippe was known for his liberal political views and his efforts to modernize France during his reign. He abolished censorship, reformed the educational system, and introduced various social and economic reforms.
Louis Philippe was also known for his patronage of the arts, and his reign saw a flourishing of French culture and literature. However, his reign was also marked by political unrest and social inequality, and he was eventually forced to abdicate in 1848 during the French Revolution of that year.
Louis Philippe mirrors come from this period of elegant, simple, and timeless design.
These mirrors typically feature a rectangular shape with rounded corners and a beveled edge, and may also feature ornate carvings or decorative details.
These iconic mirrors are known for their high-quality craftsmanship, and are often used as statement pieces in home decor.
Their classic design make them a versatile piece that can complement a variety of interior design styles, from traditional to modern, and they reflect the understated sophistication of French style.
Here are a few examples of interiors where the Louis Philippe style would work well:
- Traditional interiors: Louis Philippe mirrors can be used as a statement piece in traditional interiors, where they can complement rich, dark wood furniture and ornate decor.
- Modern interiors: Louis Philippe mirrors can also work well in modern interiors, where they can add a touch of elegance and sophistication. A simple, unadorned Louis Philippe mirror can complement clean lines and minimalist decor.
- Transitional interiors: The Louis Philippe style can work well in transitional interiors, which blend traditional and modern elements. A Louis Philippe mirror can add a classic touch to a space while still feeling fresh and contemporary.
What I love about this mirror is that it can be used in multiple spaces and multiple decor styles, which is great because I tend to shift and move things around on a whim.
It would look beautiful hung over a mantle or even propped up agains the wall in a bedroom. It would definitely add lots of charm to any room that it’s displayed in!
Cheers, Cindy

Just beautiful!
Thank you, Jill!
Very beautiful! Turned our great! BAM!
Thank you so much, Leticia!
It looks stunning and perfect in your entryway, Cindy. I’ve seen this mirror, both in the raw wood and painted, but the gold metallic notches it up another level. It’s just beautiful. Btw, we recently vacationed in Orange Beach…not far from you or I think your favorite antiques place you like to shop. It would’ve been fun to hit that on the way home, b/c I think they would’ve been open. However, since we had additional family traveling with us, everyone wasn’t going to be appreciative of strolling thru an antiques store when getting home was their goal…had a long drive. So, maybe one day! Again, such a beautiful mirror! ~ Roxie
Thank you, Roxie! Yes, Orange Beach is just a “stones throw” away from us! It’s a beautiful area!
What a beautiful mirror, Cindy. Love it. How did you hand it on your wall?
It comes with hardware on the back for hanging so it was very easy. I just had to use a wall cleat that was heavy duty enough to hold it in the sheetrock!
It’s a beautiful mirror and looks like a great size. Where did you find the paint to repaint it?
Always love seeing your home. Cherry
Thank you, Cherry! I found the paint on Amazon. The link to it is in the post!
The gold paint you used is beautiful! As is the mirror.
Thank you, Margie!
