The question I get asked all the time, “Where can I find a Mora clock”?
This question lands in my inbox all the time. And if you have followed me for awhile, you already know that I’m just a wee bit obsessed with these Swedish beauties.
Swedish Mora clocks are such an iconic decorating piece for the French, Gustavian, Cottage, and Farmhouse decorating styles.
I have loved them since the first time I laid eyes on them.
This love affair of mine with Mora clocks has lasted for years.
And even though I would love to some day own the “real deal”, that may never happen.
Authentic antique Mora clocks can run several thousand dollars, so they remain out of my budget.
Fortunately, I have found the perfect alternative!
A reproduction Mora clock from Antique Farmhouse!
It’s beautiful, and perfect for getting the look without the price tag!
When my clock arrived, I excitedly opened the box and hoped that it was as gorgeous as the pictures had shown.
I was not disappointed!
The clock is painted in a beautiful gray and white paint, with a fablous chippy, timeworn finish.
Mora clocks have such an interesting history.
In the 18th century, the farming town of Mora, Sweden fell upon hard times, forcing the farmers to find new sources of income.
Many of the families started making clocks, with each family specializing in a specific area of the clock making.
Some made the brass clockworks, some painted the faces, while others painted, or built the cases.
More than 1000 clocks were produced each year, for 80 years.
In Sweden, the clock is a symbol of the measure of our lifespan, counting out the days in the life of the house.
In some Swedish families, it was the tradition, on Sunday mornings, to gather around while the clock was wound and readied for the week ahead.
Mora clocks were made in various shapes, all based on the figure eight, or rounded female form, each one bearing the personality of the creator.
They were often finished in lighter colors and embellished with gold details to reflect the light in the long, dark Swedish winters.
The clocks were traditionally given as a present to the bride on her wedding day. Decorations on the bridal clocks were very elaborate, sometimes adorned with carved flowers and leaves, resembling a bridal crown.
Many Mora clocks also had urns, fans, and decorative elements on the top of the bonnet. Roosters were another element, symbolizing the beginning of the day.
With this kind of history, it’s no wonder that Mora clocks are coveted by so many designers, and used in so many different decor styles.
The Antique FarmHouse Mora clock is a reproduction that is very well made, with the look of an authentic Mora….but without costing thousands of dollars.
I get so many emails and questions from readers, asking about where they can find a Mora clock, so I couldn’t wait to share this information with you!
I placed this Mora in the breakfast room.
It was a perfect fit on the small wall separating the kitchen from the small dining area of the breakfast room.
There’s something about the curvy body and the timeworn clock face that speaks to me.
And that painted gray and white finish has just the right amount of chippiness.
“Miss Mora” runs off of a battery (AA). As soon as I unpacked it, I put a battery in it and set the time.
It runs perfectly!
I have to say I am in love with it!
Standing over 6 feet tall, it makes quite the statement!
I have another reproduction Mora clock in our foyer that I found years ago from another company that no longer makes them.
Even though chances are slim that one day I will own an authentic Mora clock, I still search for them. You never know…..
Cheers,
Cindy
{The clock was provided by Antique Farmhouse, but all opinions and love for this clock are 100% my own. See my Disclosure Statement HERE}

But it is sold out.
Mariana, I just checked and yes, the gray and white has sold out. I’m sure they will restock at some point. However, they do have it available in another color, which could always be painted if you didn’t like the current color. Here’s the link: http://shrsl.com/?~bhqt
Oh Cindy, love the clock! I went on the site, but it seems they are sold out!!! I’m so disappointed! The price is great and it looks perfect!
Linda, I just saw that the gray and white has sold out. I’m sure they will be restocking it. However, they do have the same clock in another color. You could always paint it if you didn’t like the color. Here’s the link: http://shrsl.com/?~bhqt
Hopefully it won’t sell out too quickly as well!
Love Mora Clocks too! This is just perfect where you have placed it.
Blessings, Candy
Thank you Candy!
I forgot to mention, what happened to the other one you had there it was absolutely gorgeous too! Really liked the gold piece at the top of it. Where did you find that one? Have a great day.
Blessings, Candy
Candy, I moved the other one into another room. It will probably be going into the foyer when it is finished. I guess I can officially say that I am collecting Mora clocks! I found that Mora {it’s a reproduction as well} several years ago from a company that no longer sells them. The really good reproduction Mora’s are a bit difficult to find, this one of Antique FarmHouse is one of the best I’ve seen. I may end up “tweaking” this Mora with a little bit of gold leaf!
Believe it or not Target has one in black! It is also very nice!
Beautiful Cindy! I saw this on Antique farmhouse the other day, oh if only it was in the budget! Thank you so much for your beautiful posts. Have a very blessed week!
Susan

I know, Debra, it is absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful room and I am obsessed with your brick flooring under your table. How on earth did you achieve such a seamless look with the wood? Please…inquiring minds NEED to know!!
Thank you, Gail! The brick floor in the breakfast room is original to the house. We replaced the tile with wood and cut it around the brick that was already there!
